The close of any bar on any time frame indicates whether or not it is a trend bar or a range bar. It is therefore an indication of whether or not the bears were in control or the bulls for that particular slot of time. If a range bar then it indicates more of a balance between bears and bulls for that slot of time. Without the close you could not determine what kind of bar it is nor what forces were at play for that particular time slot be it 5 minutes or 15 minutes or 1 hour, daily, weekly....etc..ad nauseam. Now, if you are not interested in knowing whether the bulls or the bears are in control for a particular slot of time then the close is indeed meaningless to you. I don't use them however that said the 50% retracement does have some merit but of course it is not a fib.

The mm's of yesteryear and the specialist of course captured the spread in stocks which could amount to alot of money over the course of the session in a heavily traded issue. Htf's are basically doing the same thing but at a more micro level and of course at a much faster speed. Unless a person is micro scalping i dont see hft affecting trading that much. Not to say it can't but i would be more concerned about two or 3 htfs going rogue in a trading session. Nevertheless, we are all learning about hft's and may find it does affect us more than we first thought.

Tape reading should not be looked at on T&S. That sort of thing ...well those days are over...unless you got deep enough pockets..and smart young wippersnappers to program faster and better htfs ..algos...and programs to detect the tape at the level the eye nor brain can read fast enough to make sense of it.....etc The tape needs to be read in a more relaxed environment for the average trader. Not t&s but chart tape reading. Gann..livermore..wyckoff...looked at it in charts and also used the tape ticker with its printouts. Unless you got extremely fast eyeballs and a high octane brain forget looking at t&s to figure the tape out. Just my 2 pennies worth... Patuca

Not sure why so much fussing about front running...etc. It was happening pre-livermore days and still happens everyday..legal or illegal. We have always lived with it and always will. Ways will be found to circumvent it. Remember the soes bandits? They used to front run mm's any time they could catch the spread in such a way to do so. So...that got them labeled with a dirty name...BANDITS. I am sure they were quite proud of their name...like jesse james and his gang..So..things evolved into tighter spreads...wonder who wanted that?.....now who is bellyaching about the hft front running on tighter spreads? Could it be .......? No way they wouldn't do that would they? Then there are laws about insider trading....etc... Did the specialist have inside info about the market? Was he allowed to trade his own account? Mmm... Point...market has always had manipulation. It never has been fair nor will it ever be fair. The only thing fair about it is that all have the same environment to trade in i.e. an unfair environment LOL! It has always been a game of wits. Does anyone know that sometimes the mm's got screwed? does anyone realize that htf's are screwing each other every day all day long? I used to frown when i would see a specialist screw someone over. Then i used to laugh when i saw someone screw the specialist over. In the end neither thing did me any good or bad. It is what it is. LOL most everyone is hollering for the good ole days especially the floor boys now that the flash boys have appeared in all their cunning and might. If it is any consolation charts still look the same...generally i.e. Trends...pull backs...ranges..breakouts..more trends..strong (spikes and breakouts)...channels (weaker trends), sideways (ranges), more trends strong and weak...PB..then breakouts or ranges...over and over and over again ad nauseam. At least the hollering and screaming added some diversion to such a boring job. Now days you have scream at the computer or jump on top of the desk and shake the daylights out of it. 70% or more of trading is via cold..unfeeling..drab...computers that use algos and htfs powered by the computers which in turn are obeying calculating humans. It is the invasion of the machines. In the old days one could mess with the MM's and specialist. Now one is pitted against the machines. They can still be beaten though because algos are devised by humans and until human nature changes there will always be trends...breakouts..channels...ranges..flags..pennants..triangles...etc more ad nauseam. It simply is not as fun beating a machine as beating another human in the markets. Nevertheless, the money is there and it can be taken.

Last i heard sierra supports the OEC (0pen ecry) platform and oec also has OCO capability. OEC was recently obtained by Gain capitol. You might wantto check them out since you like sierra and oco orders. If you do so let us know what you find out about them.

To have a look at the other side of the argument i.e. against hft the new book Flash Boys by Michael Lewis might be an interesting read for some.

I have had my moto for years but am now getting too old to hold up an 800 pound moto with all the luggage on board and the misses ....plus pulling an 11 ft camper. This was close to a ton hurtling down the highway once all the gear is included. My knees are going out on me......so unfortunately i have decided to spring for a 40 foot diesel pusher motorhome with a tow veh behind it.....it is really sad..i will miss my moto...so many adventures and fun on it...life was so mobile...carefree...enjoyable...simple... The motorhome has satellite but i havent used it yet. But i guess i can still use my ipad as a hotspot. MH has three slideouts so plenty of room. Why do we have to get old? Things were better when younger.....now i gotta get all this stuff to survive and complicate my life.....guess i need to try and enjoy it as much as i can... Gonna miss that moto......

I travel around alot. I use an ipad setup with verizon as a hotspot for my laptop that has my trading platform on it. As long as i get a somewhat decent signal from verizon the speed is acceptable for trading.... for my purposes anyway. I also have satellite in rural USA at a property i spend more time at. There i use hughes net generation 4. Much of the time it is acceptable but has its moments of "slowness" i.e. delayed executions on the trading platform. I suppose it depends on your platform too and perhaps the type of trading you do. I actually prefer using the ipad as hotspot over gen4 IF i get a decent signal with verizon in the area i am in. If there is a decent signal it can actually be faster and less delay than a satellite service such as hughes net. At least in my case. When you buy an ipad you can have them set it up for verizon or for at&t. But check out the area you plan to locate at and see who has better coverage...at&t or verizon. When traveling out of the country such as in Central America...i just pop out the verizon chip out of the ipad buy a local internet cell chip put some time on it and viola my ipad becomes a hotspot for my laptop for trading purposes.
