  1. There is a wealth of information on TS and MC. In general, MC is 95% compatible with TS and for your purposes, the tutorials should apply. Open the indicators and study the code. It may help other readers if you actually describe in detail how the original "trough value" Metastock function is coded.
  2. Thanks. It good to know newer MC versions have caught up with reverse engineering the eld container format. As you know, TS eld has changed since version 8.5 and even earlier TS versions (eg 8.3) have trouble opening the newer format.
  3. TS platform fee is waved with broker account and 10 Futures round trip per month. MC is not a data provider. OEC lacks comprehensive backfill history and market internal data. MC can only import TS eld from TS 8.3 and earlier. It will probably not import any eld from 8.5 onwards. Use copy and paste and it should work with a little more customizing. There is nothing wrong with MC/OEC combination if you don't trade based on a lot of backfill data and other market internals, otherwise you would still need to find a data provider equivalent to TS.
  4. Attached edited recording to TL.albrooks050908cut.mp3
  5. Well, if you are doing Forex, TS uses Gain Capital and they are often seen as: " Is Gain Capital the worst Forex Broker ever?" https://www.tradestation.com/Discussions/Topic.aspx?Topic_ID=74423 For example: If you do CME and other futures, TS is not that bad.
  6. Atrader is a free MP charting program for now (some nag screens) if you can get the IB datafeed or import some data, it supports some composite profiles. http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/f6/free-mp-ib-dtn-feed-6094.html There are many posted charts here at charthub, starting with this author: Charts by user | ChartHub.com
  7. Perhaps this version has fixed the YM. Atrader has a tendency to crash with IB downloads, even with the new .16 version. Hopefully it can be fixed in the future.
  8. fin-alg is a fine package and it runs under NT and you shouldn't have any regrets about buying it. Atrader announced that the profile would be free just recently, on 05-30-09 11:45 AM. Previously, only the charting portion was free on a limited basis. FYI, Atrader will do a server authentication in order for it to run. It is possible that this is just a trial run to iron out the bugs and that some time in the future, the profile would no longer be free - just a guess. Meanwhile, it could be a useful tool.
  9. It takes too long to explain that this is as useless as any other indicators out there. You should just read the thread below: TS SUPPORT :: View topic - Why I don't trust "IntraBarPersist" What you are seeing may or may not be real, depending on your system, your charts, your isp, your indicators, your trading account size .... (well, may be not the last one). As to the post just above regarding Tradestation ELD from code, if you are unsure how to copy and verify posted code, please see this tutorial: https://www.tradestation.com/discussions/Topic.aspx?Topic_ID=84271#417950
  10. Sure. I think forum attachments made during an editing may not stay permanent. Here is another copy. Atrader2manual.pdf
  11. I thought it was $500. Don't go short changing a homeless person. I would actually wait in line to get a bowl of soup from Michelle Obama in a homeless shelter even if I weren't homeless.
  12. You should read the original thread again. You may be confusing Heikin-Ashi trend or 'TTM trend' paintbars with the Scalper. The picture you attached does not show the actual bar that the scalper was back-painted. This one does: http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/46/scalper-buys-sell-replica-2124-2.html#post60743
  13. This is a competent package and it appears to be more than just a time limited demo. The memory footprint is also fairly good at ~32MB so you can run it in the background without too much trouble (in fact java/tws takes up 5 or 6x the memory). Got a update from james/Atrader Support: Attached the Atrader documentation converted from the original Word doc to PDF.
  14. There is now a capable and free charting software that will do MP using IB or DTN feed, written and generously provided by jimbo320 at http://www.atrader.org Well, let's not call it MP because of the copyright problems with CBOT so instead call it DP for distribution profiling. You can request a copy here: http://www.atrader.org/register.htm As indicated by jimbo320 in another forum, this DP feature is now free, although it is not clear if this is a trial version and if it is time limited, but for now it seems to work fine with IB. Use the keyboard shortcuts (see Help) to resize the chart to see the whole profile. It is possible to seek multiple day and weekly profiles. This software package is a good alternative to running Tradestation (TS), MC or NT if you don't have a good DP indicator for those platforms and it also free up some resources from those platforms to do other studies. I have no association with jimbo320 or his website.
  15. Every post TRO makes is replicated about 20 times across all the forums, so it is very hard to avoid it, but doing so may be the right thing to do for most readers. picture reduced on purpose to avoid unnecessary advertising.
  16. Howzit and welcome to the forum. Most of the TRO's posts and indicators are too confusing and distracting. I suggest you stay with something simple. The TTM Scalper looks for the SwingHigh (Swing High occurs when the Price of a bar is at least as high as the same Price on the preceding bar(s), and higher than the same Price on the bar(s) that follow it.) and goes back on the chart and paint in the signal of the Swing High point (eg., it repaints by going back in time). It does this with the same logic for the SwingLow. AFAIK, there is no exact replica of the TTM Scalper for MT4 for free. The equivalent indicator in the MT4 platform could be the 3_level_zz_semafor-indicator. zz stand for zigzag, which is an indicator that finds swing points that are distant by at least the percent or number of bars specified by the input. Again, anything based on zigzag or swing logic will need to repaint or redrawn after the swings are established. The better indicators will tell you when the repaint actually occurred. The more deceptive indicator will just show you the final results and at a first glance appeared it nailed the top and the bottom when in fact it is an act of time traveling. 3_Level_ZZ_Semafor (indicator for MT4) - Forex Trading 3_Level_ZZ_Semafor.mq4
  17. Thanks to the swan man from IL for recording and hosting the Al Brooks seminar in Quicktime MOV. Attached are the ~5x reduced and converted versions to SWF or Flash video. The sizes are about 20 and 26 MB. Use something like the free SWF Opener to play if you don't have a player. BF, these SWF are now hosted on TL and are basically slide shows with audio, which may be as good or better than a PDF. SWF Opener setup Al_Brooks_Trading _Best_Price_Action.swf Al_Brooks_A_Month_of_Great_Trades.swf
  18. In the days of old, before the merger was consummated, there was a chap named JC, who was pumping for CBOT, and he wrote this about the gap (not sure about the 'lowest risk' part, not sure about what JC wrote about the mini Dow and emini S&Ps, not sure about a lots of things JC wrote actually ...) :
  19. Michael Douglas hasn't aged well.
  20. The title of this thread looked funny until you realized that Crabel's first name is Toby and not Tony. The practice of opening range breakout (ORB) has changed since Crabel's book came out and some would say it is not working - although some say it could work if one modified the concept of ORB and optimal entry points. In any case, the Amibroker file you are likely to come across will not be profitable as is, unless you understand how Crabel came up with the ORB concept - Steenbarger has some good articles on this. Subsequent to Crabel, Clayburg has done some work on ORB and called it Day Directional Filter (DDF). Some would say that doesn't work either as Clayburg seems to be curve fitting his strategy constantly to make it appear better than it is. The attached file is such an example of DDF for Amibroker and the dll file has to be installed in the Amibroker plugin folder. AFL Zip.rar
  21. Frank's posts are always interesting and not selling anything other than knowledge and another view of the market. I find this post interesting and have nominated it as TOPM. S&P Intraday Range and VIX
  22. Looks like you got it from this thread: Gann Hi/Lo Activator for Tradestation - Forex Factory from Piter, but inexplicably it is source protected, therefore MC can't open it and TS can use it but can't edit the source. However, this is just a simple hi-lo activator, plotting the 10 period moving average of the highs and lows, depending on condition of the swing, where swing equals to whether the price is above (+1) or below (-1) the 10 period average of the hi or lo, respectively. { HiLo Activator by Mark K sadhu@myacc.net } Inputs: Len(10),Price(C); Var: Swing(0); Value1 = AverageFC(H,Len); Value2 = AverageFC(L,Len); if Price < Value2[1] then Swing = -1; if Price > Value1[1] then Swing = 1; if Swing = 1 then Plot1(Value2,"+B"); if Swing = -1 then Plot3(Value1,"+S"); {optionally add Plot2(Value1,"-B"); Plot4(Value2,"-S");}
  23. VIX is really a made up number that the options market tries to make sense of the expectation of volatility or the range where the market could trade. How that plays out during a day with regard to the actual intraday range is the subject of Frank's work. Therefore I think Frank's thread on S&P 500 intra-range vs implied volatility study is worth studying: post Oops, just noticed the poll is closed, I'll renominate the post for next month.
