Tennessee Man Quits Job After Getting W-2 with '666' on it

By Mike Krumboltz

A Tennessee maintenance worker has quit his job after discovering the number "666" printed on his W-2 tax form.

The man, Walter Slonopas, a 52-year-old born-again Christian, told The Tennessean that God was worth more than money.

The number 666 is commonly referred to as the number of the beast and is often associated with the devil. (The number played a pivotal role in the classic horror movie "The Omen.") Revelation 13:18 in the New Testament says, "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

This wasn't the first time that Slonopas had a work-related run-in with the notorious number. When he first began his job in 2011, he said, he was accidentally assigned the number 666 to be used when he clocked in. His number was later changed to 668.

However, a few months later, when the company updated its clock-in system, Slonopas was again assigned the number 666. He quit, but returned to work after being given yet another new number.

The Tennessean spoke with Bob LaCourciere, vice president of sales and marketing for the Revstone Corp., Slonopas' former company, about the W-2 form. He explained that the number referred to the order in which the tax documents were mailed.

Slonopas, who calls the situation "unbelievable," is seeking a new W-2 with a different number on it. He says that he can't file his taxes without one.

While being superstitions is not the worst thing in the world, I for one have had the occasional giggle internally at getting something with the number 69 on it......the problem is he has not taken himself out of the genepool yet to win an award!

mind you it does not like he would believe in Charles Darwins ideas anyway.

I like the idea and will keep my eye out for some unusual ones - other than the normal ones.

thanks

the problem is he has not taken himself out of the genepool yet to win an award!

He's 52 and unemployed. It's only a matter of time.

Of course, if he's married, his wife may take care of it.

Heart Attack Grill Unofficial Spokesman Dies From Heart Attack

John Alleman, the unofficial spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas, has died of a heart attack. He was 52, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

For the past year and a half, Alleman would stand outside of the restaurant and try to encourage people to come inside. Owner Jon Basso didn't actually pay him for this, but would occasionally give him some free food.

“I told him if you keep eating like this, it’s going to kill ya,” Basso told the Las Vegas Sun.

The Heart Attack Grill is known for its over-the-top burger creations such as the quadruple bypass burger, which holds the Guinness World Record for "most calorific burger."

Alleman's heart attack is the most recent health incident surrounding the restaurant. In 2011, another Heart Attack Grill spokesman died at age 29. The following year, a customer suffered a heart attack while eating a triple bypass burger. Two months after that, a customer collapsed while eating a double bypass burger.

Natasha Harris Died From Drinking Too Much Coke

A New Zealand coroner has told an inquest that Natasha Harris, a mother of eight who suffered a heart attack in 2010, would not have died if she hadn't been dependent on on Coca-Cola.

In findings released Feb. 12, coroner David Crerar wrote:

"I find that, when all of the available evidence is considered, were it not for the consumption of very large quantities of Coke by Natasha Harris, it is unlikely that she would have died when she died and how she died.''

As reported by the Associated Press last year, Harris, a 31-year-old stay-at-home mom, drank more than two gallons of the soft drink every day. Chris Hodgkinson, the woman's partner, said Harris was "addicted to Coke" and had unhealthy habits, such as eating very little and smoking up to 30 cigarettes a day.

Crerar calculated that Harris' intake of Coca-Cola meant that she ingested the equivalent of two pounds of sugar and 970 milligrams of caffeine per day, according to Television New Zealand. Her family claims Harris suffered from withdrawal symptoms when she didn't have access to her beverage of choice.

Sorry to take this slightly off-topic - just regarding the 'too much coke' post above - it made me think of this video I saw on YouTube. It's from a set of Chemistry videos (about all sorts of different chemistry stuff) which are quite interesting. Anyway this one in particular was about coke in March 2012.

From the YouTube video description:

"The recipe is changed for Coke and Pepsi (in the US). It is because of the chemical 4-methylimidazole, which would require the companies to put a cancer warning on their labels. In this video we warn you not to drink more than 1,000 cans of the drink in a single day!"

I think these jokers should be up for an award...

UK rag head terrorists and their bomb money....

But the real plan was to con ordinary people. They collected some £13,000 from Muslims who regard it as a religious and moral duty to give to charity during Ramadan.

Rahin Ahmed, another member of the cell, said he could make more money by investing it in online currency trading - he lost £9,000. Ahmed has separately pleaded guilty to fund-raising for terrorism.

It wasnt one of you lot was it? :haha:

Clumsy Burglar Steals Rifle, Then Accidentally Shoots and Kills Himself

By Justin Peters

A reader passes along the sad, instructive story of Genaro Hernandez Mendoza, an Oregon man who met his untimely end late last week. The 19-year-old Mendoza broke into a farmhouse in Independence, Ore., and came away with a pretty good haul, including a truck, a shotgun, and a rifle. Unfortunately, the house was located on a bumpy road, and as Mendoza drove away in the stolen truck, the rifle was jostled and went off. Even more unfortunately, the barrel was pointing straight at Mendoza. Police found his body hours later. The truck’s engine was still running.

Man Fatally Crushed In San Francisco Subway Shaft

A man was crushed to death in the shaft of a BART elevator at San Francisco's Montgomery station Sunday night, according to transportation officials.

A passenger was taking the elevator up one level when he heard "a crunching sound and a man yelp before the elevator stopped," BART Police Lieutenant John Conneely said. The elevator car then stopped and became stuck. The passenger called the police and fire departments for help. After he was successfully released from the elevator, authorities searched the shaft and found a man's body, which was immediately pronounced dead.

Conneely said the man may have been sleeping atop the elevator, but it remains unknown as to how he wound up in the shaft or how long he had been inside it. Personal belongings were found on top of the elevator car, and it is uncertain whether they belonged to the man.

Shain Gandee Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Family Raising Money for Funeral

By Kathleen Perricone

Shain Gandee died doing what he loved.

While mudding with his uncle, David Gandee, and friend, Donald Robert Myers, following a night at a West Virginia bar on Saturday [emphasis mine], the "Buckwild" star's 1984 Ford Bronco got stuck in the thick, dirty water and its tailpipe submerged, thus preventing the exhaust from leaving the car.

On Tuesday, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department in West Virginia announced that completed autopsies confirmed: "The manner of death is accidental and the cause was carbon monoxide poisoning for all three subjects."

A hockey player has died after being bitten by a king brown snake at hockey fields in the Northern Territory.

Karl Berry, 26, was at Marrara Hockey Centre in Darwin on Tuesday evening when he picked up a snake, thinking it was a python, and threw it into bushes.

The snake bit him on the hand, but he did not seek medical help because he thought the snake was harmless.

He then went for a two-kilometre run – which ambulance officers said was one of the worst things he could have done as it pumped the venom through his system – and collapsed when he returned.

The captain of the A-grade team of Commerce-Pints Hockey Club was rushed to hospital but declared dead on Wednesday night in the Intensive Care Unit after being put on life support.

Karl's father Ian said his son was a sports-mad bloke who loved his work as a service station manager.

"We'll get there," he said, when asked how he was coping.

"We've had better weeks."

Mr Berry said his family was keeping Karl's body on life support so his organs could be donated.

"He was outgoing and a leader," he said

There are conflicting stories about how Karl came to pick up the snake, with some reports that it was on a hockey field.

Some of the hockey players have said the snake was in an office and junior players raised the alarm before Karl picked it up.

"I've heard several stories but I have no direct knowledge," Mr Berry said.

St John's Ambulance Operations Manager, Craig Garraway, said Mr Berry was conscious when paramedics arrived and it took up to 15 minutes for him to mention he had been bitten by a snake.

"He had gone for a two-kilometre run which pumped the venom around his system much faster," he said.

Mr Berry said the venom had been sent away for testing and it was thought the snake was a king brown.

The executive officer of Hockey Northern Territory, Baden Sharp, said Karl hit his head when he collapsed.

"At the request of Hockey NT, officers from Parks and Wildlife have attended the Marrara Hockey Centre," he said.

"A minute’s silence will be held before each senior game this weekend and players will wear black arm bands in memory of Karl Berry’s passing."

    • Be careful who you blame.   I can tell you one thing for sure.   Effective traders don’t blame others when things start to go wrong.   You can hang onto your tendency to play the victim, or the martyr… but if you want to achieve in trading, you have to be prepared to take responsibility.   People assign reasons to outcomes, whether based on internal or external factors.   When traders face losses, it's common for them to blame bad luck, poor advice, or other external factors, rather than reflecting on their own personal attributes like arrogance, fear, or greed.   This is a challenging lesson to grasp in your trading journey, but one that holds immense value.   This is called attribution theory. Taking responsibility for your actions is the key to improving your trading skills. Pause and ask yourself - What role did I play in my financial decisions?   After all, you were the one who listened to that source, and decided to act on that trade based on the rumour. Attributing results solely to external circumstances is what is known as having an ‘external locus of control’.   It's a concept coined by psychologist Julian Rotter in 1954. A trader with an external locus of control might say, "I made a profit because the markets are currently favourable."   Instead, strive to develop an "internal locus of control" and take ownership of your actions.   Assume that all trading results are within your realm of responsibility and actively seek ways to improve your own behaviour.   This is the fastest route to enhancing your trading abilities. A trader with an internal locus of control might proudly state, "My equity curve is rising because I am a disciplined trader who faithfully follows my trading plan." • SELF IMPROVEMENT.   The whole self-help industry began when Dale Carnegie published How to Win Friends and Influence People in 1936. Then came other classics like Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins toward the end of the century.   Today, teaching people how to improve themselves is a business. A pure ruthless business where some people sell utter bullshit.   There are broke Instagrammers and YouTubers with literally no solid background teaching men how to be attractive to women, how to begin a start-up, how to become successful — most of these guys speaking nothing more than hollow motivational words and cliche stuff. They waste your time. Some of these people who present themselves as hugely successful also give talks and write books.   There are so many books on financial advice, self-improvement, love, etc and some people actually try to read them. They are a waste of time, mostly.   When you start reading a dozen books on finance you realize that they all say the same stuff.   You are not going to live forever in the learning phase. Don't procrastinate by reading bull-shit or the same good knowledge in 10 books. What we ought to do is choose wisely.   Yes. A good book can change your life, given you do what it asks you to do.   All the books I have named up to now are worthy of reading. Tim Ferriss, Simon Sinek, Robert Greene — these guys are worthy of reading. These guys teach what others don't. Their books are unique and actually, come from relevant and successful people.   When Richard Branson writes a book about entrepreneurship, go read it. Every line in that book is said by one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time.   When a Chinese millionaire( he claims to be) Youtuber who releases a video titled “Why reading books keeps you broke” and a year later another one “My recommendation of books for grand success” you should be wise to tell him to jump from Victoria Falls.   These self-improvement gurus sell you delusions.   They say they have those little tricks that only they know that if you use, everything in your life will be perfect. Those little tricks. We are just “making of a to-do-list before sleeping” away from becoming the next Bill Gates.   There are no little tricks.   There is no success-mantra.   Self-improvement is a trap for 99% of the people. You can't do that unless you are very, very strong.   If you are looking for easy ways, you will only keep wasting your time forgetting that your time on this planet is limited, as alive humans that is.   Also, I feel that people who claim to read like a book a day or promote it are idiots. You retain nothing. When you do read a good book, you read slow, sometimes a whole paragraph, again and again, dwelling on it, trying to internalize its knowledge. You try to understand. You think. It takes time.   It's better to read a good book 10 times than 1000 stupid ones.   So be choosy. Read from the guys who actually know something, not some wannabe ‘influencers’.   Edit: Think And Grow Rich was written as a result of a project assigned to Napoleon Hill by Andrew Carnegie(the 2nd richest man in recent history). He was asked to study the most successful people on the planet and document which characteristics made them great. He did extensive work in studying hundreds of the most successful people of that time. The result was that little book.   Nowadays some people just study Instagram algorithms and think of themselves as a Dale Carnegie or Anthony Robbins.
