NinjaTrader 7 Beta

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anyone here had a chance to try out the NT7 beta yet? I've just been chosen to try out the next beta coming in a few weeks and wanted to see if anyone else has had the chance to try and what your thoughts are on it. I've been looking forward to NT7 for quite some time now!

Yes, just recently. I decided not to invest much time in it. The reason being that historical bid and ask data are stored in separate data structures with only 1 second time stamp resolution. This make it impossible to reconstruct historical bid, ask and last data in the same sequence as it occurred real time. It has several other implications for other applications too.

I've been using it for a while now and surprisingly not many problems with it... So far so good not as big of a resource pig... NT for me tho is pretty much just order entry, I use another platform for charting... mainly because of the ZF limitations.

Thanks for the replies. Two of the main features I've been looking forward to is the chart overlay feature and continuous contracts. I've also heard NT7 is much better on chart load time and not a huge resource hog like DaKine said.

They just sent me a download link for Beta 10, so it looks like I'll be test driving it tomorrow.

I get the feeling NT7 is going to basically be a disaster...After working on it for so long they should not be at the stage they are at with beta testing. Putting in a new db engine and giving it 1 second time stamps is just mind blowingly stupid.

I think its going to be real hard for NT7 to be much more than 6.5 + new bugs...

I really don't like how they are storing data. I am all for using native file system and simple format files for storage when appropriate. Just did a bit of housekeeping and noticed that NT 7.0 creates thousands (literally) of files for data storage (I only have a few instruments I look at). Not particularly impressed by that. Windows is not great at handling very large quantities of small files. Just backing up and deleting was slightly painful.

Yes I have not been all that impressed yet with the NT 7 Beta. I only use NT7 now for order entry for the most part. Looks like I may start transfering some of my accounts over to a TradeVec platform brokerage (Paul at Vcap Futures.....he helped work on TradeVec feedback while in development). TradeVec is going to eventually have two feed capabilities and also add Cumulative Delta candlesticks so that will be very nice. :)

    • Question: To those that had/have cancer, what were the signs that made you think “something is not right here” to make you go see a doctor? Answer: So, 5/25/2018, I woke up, got ready for work, and as I walked to my car, I started gagging. Like something was stuck in my throat and I needed to clear it. And then it went away.   But 10 minutes after that, I was T-boned at 40mph on the driver side door. But what made me see a doctor was while my muscles felt better and bruises were going away, the gagging still continued, I started having fevers, my neck felt swollen, I was having such a hard time breathing, and I'd have random sharp pains in my chest, but not from where the seat belt saved me.   2 weeks after the accident, I finally see an urgent care doctor, who looks me over, tells me I'm fine, but luckily requests a neck X-ray. And I ask for a chest X-ray, which he rolls his eyes but let me have (most of my pain was in the neck, so I understand).   The very next day, he calls and says “So, that chest X-ray shows there's a 4 inch mass on your heart and lungs, and your lungs have been filling up with fluid, as well as in your pericardial (heart) wall. We need you to come in tomorrow.”   Turns out the big mass, due to the accident, caused my heart and lungs to tear and fill with fluid, the swollen neck and gagging was caused by 2 metastasized tumors, and the fevers and weight loss were symptoms. Stage 4b Hodgkin's Lymphoma.   But thankfully, we went very aggressive with chemo (and had a lot of bad side effects that don't normally happen to patients), and now I'm about 16 months cancer-free. Yay lucky X-rays!
