Perfect entry tonite at 14506. It's a double leg pullback captured within that clear upleg from 14361 to 14823. It just broke above a previous high after the 2nd downleg. 2 contract trade, target for first at 14698, and 2nd at 14823. Stop at 14402, just below 2nd leg low.

I liked this idea. It seems that many others liked the idea as well and acted also upon it... today's moves smell like a stop run...

Same trade is still on. New stop at 14393. Same entry as before, same targets. Such is the nature of the markets, no predicting, only preparing. One thing has changed, you are now with the strong longs if you are in this trade, all weak longs have been shaken off, watch for price to move up quickly!

Agree! Though, I like the chart of ES more than YM, as ES has already made new highs late in the session and YM couldn't. I wait until European session on Tuesday and see how price reacts...

Short ES at 1573.50. Still overall bearish (see earlier comments). Looks like a downward trend line is being established here.

Still sticking with my original call on this one, sorry but trendlines are too subjective an art to believe in or quantify in my opinion. 14698 then 14823.

The ES broke out of its downtrend above 1570.75, but nothing to lean on yet for a trade on the long side. Just my opinion.

If someone is following this thread, he or she will have noticed that I have somewhat changed my trading style recently.

Whereas I began this thread as a "swing trading" journal and held positions for a few days to several weeks (the latter would be better characterized as "position trading"), I recently started to look at price movements taking between a few hours to 2-3 days and tried to benefit from these instead of holding positions for longer periods.

When I looked at my trades I've realized that my entries and exits were pretty poor. So I've started to try to figure out how to improve these. However, during this process I came to the conclusion, why not try to benefit from these shorter-term moves altogether (now you see, what a journal can be good for... ;) ... assuming that my trading will be more successful in the future than in the last few months :) ). This might deserve the label "swing trading" also more than my former trading style.

Another change is that I now try to focus on one instrument only, whereas earlier I've looked for opportunities in various instruments. Although I think that there are opportunities in other futures markets as well, for me, equity index futures are the "easiest" when it comes to assessing potential movements within the next 1-3 days. Hence, I will focus on these for the time being.

The last trades in this regard were with the e-mini Dow, but I will start to trade ES as well (... and maybe focus on it completely).

Another change is that I post my account size, in order to provide some more information for anyone who is interested.

My current account size is 18,150$ but I plan to cash out a bit and reduce it to between 10,000$ and 12,000$, which is sufficient to trade 1 ES contract, in my opinion, at least for my holding periods / "typical" stops.

Congrats! First target hit :)

      Hello guys,
I'm starting to swing trade commodities, especially soft commodities (corn, sugar, coffee, cotton, soybean, ...). I'm also checking gold and oil.
My problem is I'd like to know what is the best broker for trading those markets (regulated, large commodity choice) ? For CFD trading.
I'm thinking of IC MARKETS who are very good with forex and have good trading conditions.
The concern I have is that I need a broker that offers MT4 as a platform, and also I'd like to be able to open mini lots positions for a better risk management.
As a swing trader, I'm less concerned by the spread but looking at the financing fees.
Wish you have a nice day, and thanks in advance.
      Alexandre.

    • Date: 3rd June 2024. OPEC+ Announces Gradually Higher Supply and NVIDIA a New Accelerator.     Oil declines as the European Cash Open edges closer. Oil prices have fallen for 4 consecutive days measuring almost 4.00%. OPEC+ members advise the group will have the option to not continue voluntary cuts from September onwards. All US and global indices start Monday’s trading higher after a poor end to May 2024. The bullish price gap illustrates a potential “risk-on” market. NVIDIA announces its next generation of accelerator chips and promises annual upgrades. NVIDIA stocks are already trading 0.55% higher in pre-trading hours. USOil (Crude Oil) – Voluntary Cuts May Gradually Fade! The price of Crude Oil fell almost 4.00% in the last 3 days of last week due to the OPEC+ meeting. The meeting is now at an end and journalists are pointing out 2 key points. The first, is that the OPEC+ group will keep limitations on production as it has since COVID-19. The second, is that countries which have voluntarily added additional cuts will have the option to reduce these cuts from September onwards. According to analysts, the market should not necessarily “overreact”, because if OPEC+ increases supply, it will only be gradual. Additionally, analysts also advise the group will only look to re-introduce production if the market conditions allow it to. Nonetheless, traditionally, additional supply is known by analysts to apply downward pressure on commodities. This is something which can also be seen over the past week, but investors will be keen to see the price drop below the support level.   The support level has been a key psychological level for investors throughout the month of May, specifically on 3 occasions. The price is currently trading below the 50.00 on the RSI and below most longer-term Moving Averages. If the price declines below the 65.00 Fibonacci level at $76.70 per Barrel, momentum will signal possible further decline. USA100 – NVIDIA Announces a New Accelerator Chip! The NASDAQ struggled within the previous week and at one point was down more than 3.00%. However, a large surge of buyers towards the end of Friday’s session saw a strong rebound and the index also trades higher during today’s Asian session. The NASDAQ is currently being influenced by 3 factors. However, investors will also give importance to the pricing of rate adjustments after the US employment data. The first factor prompting investors to increase tech-stock exposure is NVIDIA. The CEO of the company has again advised the technology and AI market will continue to grow and become more aggressive. In addition to this, Mr Huang advised NVIDIA is releasing a new accelerator chip and promises more within the upcoming year. A second positive factor for not only the NASDAQ, but global indices, is most analysts believe the European Central Bank will lower interest rates for the first time in the current cycle. If more global banks decide to reduce the restrictiveness of their monetary policy, stocks will become more attractive. However, only if the move is not a response to potential economic contraction. Lastly investors are also taking advantage of the lower entry point and feel an improved sentiment as Oil prices are declining. Investors hope lower oil prices will apply less upward pressure on inflation.   If the price rises above $18,638.83 the price will form a bullish breakout pattern which indicates upward movement. However, for a stronger and longer-term bullish trend, investors will be keen for the price to increase above the 75-Bar EMA and 100-Bar SMA. These two moving averages are currently priced at $18,658.28 and $18,733.30. Always trade with strict risk management. Your capital is the single most important aspect of your trading business.
