Sorry, hit submit instead of Manage Attachments in the other post and I can't figure out how to edit and attach the chart.

Sim trading. Another overnight trade. I wouldn't trade this for real as was discussed in an earlier post, but still using it to practice setups. 15 min. chart. bought on breakout of channel (actually somewhat of a bull flag) at ellipse and the target was the previous high of 1081.50 of the long candle to the left. Had my target set at 1081. Target hit for 3 pts. (Ignore the 10 contracts, I only trade 1. It set itself to 10 for some reason and I didn't notice it)

Hey man, get back in here. I miss your posts. :)

Me too, it's been a while.

Well you all know where to find me!

I just thought I could make myself more useful by posting charts rather than blotters. I was out most of this morning, and my only trade today was a short 6J (Yen fututres priced in USD and moves inversely to the USDJPY spot forex pair). My broker doesn't post pnl in a blotter, but I can show my trades - short at 11045, covered 3/5 at 11020 for +25 ticks and the remaing 2/5 stopped a entry. Gross profit was 937.50, which will be about $900 +/- after commissions. Interestingly, my 11020 profit target was low tick after my entry. Funny thing about the 6J is that sometimes I get filled on the touch, other times it has to trade through my limit by a tick or two or three to get a fill.

Best Wishes,

Thales

Chris - your loss from yesterday was on the ZB - why the ZB? Thought you were only ES. Just curious.

I normally do only trade the ES, I watch the ZB also and thought I would take a crack at it yesterday.

I have traded the DAX, 6E, FESX and CL in the past and would like to eventually trade the 6E, ZB and CL intraday along with the ES.

FWIW, I had several opportunities to get out with a modest profit but my analysis was totally off.

Hello, Thales, i'm new to this thread and trading. It's great to see you back here (not that you know me from Adam)

On account of my being a novice, i've not got the parlance down pat yet, so please bear with me, everyone.

I've been chicken and not doing anything lately because everything was surging so strongly  Finally decided to dive in yesterday when the Brent Crude pulled back. Stupidly bought 2 micro lots (yes, too chicken to buy the mini *squawk*) of the Nov at 7353, not realising it was expiring in a few hours, so at 02:30 Singapore time, it expired and was settled at 7441 for +88 :crap: Not very bright of me and i missed the rest of the move in Brent Crude.

Em, no set-up or anything, which was not smart either :\ Learning about set-ups, stop losses and money management from you wonderful people in this thread. Thanks a whole lot for sharing! One day, when i've learnt how, i will post charts with the set-ups.

If I may give you a piece of advice that is repeated everywhere in connection with trading; WRITE A TRADING PLAN.

For far too long I thought that I DON'T NEED ONE, because I am different. But I am not.

I started by putiing sticky notes on my monitors, then I got a little program that poped up a little window every few minutes with a message. This cured me from not having stops or moving them.. Basically I brain-washed myself, but the bigger change came after I wrote a trading plan.

It was/is very simple and crude. It is a work in progress, but it helped.

I noticed a definite change in my trading after writing it.

I don't keep notes of all my trades but i do take snapshots of my screen and annotate them occasionally.

I looked back the other day at a big loser that I had a long time ago and traced the numbers back to the chart. WHAT WAS I THINKING? :).

No stops and the trade went on for 20 days with a HUGH loss. I am still tempted to do that occasionally but mostly I am CURED.

I believe that a good trader (one that has a solid exit strategy) can make money even with random entries.

Couple a solid exit strategy with a statistically valid entry strategy and you practically have a liecense to print money and have the perfect job.

Good luck

Gabe

10-16-09: +$53.12

That's right, 53 bucks. Read 'em and weep. ;)

1 trade today on gold. I took it on the mini as I wasn't sure if I need to keep some margin up for other trades. For whatever reason, the big sized gold contract has big margin at OEC. In hindsight, much more profitable if taken on the big size.

Have a good wknd folks.

Thanks very much, Gabe, for saving me from learning the hard way. It's very kind! 20 days and a huge loss ... ouch. Sorry to hear about that .. it must have been rough on you.

:) It hurts more now to see how ignorant i was then but I was busy with my business and didn't pay much attention to small losses.

Now that I have decided that this is what i want to do, it's a different matter alltogether.

The problem with trading is that we as humans have a special relationship with money.

That is why we are reluctant to pay to study how to make it in trading and that is there are so many people who have no clue who try to teach others how to trade.

I doubt thta this will change but fortunately there are successful people around who are willing to share their wisdom and experience.

One just has to spend time and find those people and read their posts and practice, practice and practice more.

SCREEN TIME :). I did not invent this but it is the only way..

It is funny that people think (and I did too) that trading is easy and it is going to make us rich with hardly any effort.

It is far from it but then what proffesion is there that you can master in a short time and make a fortune with it? - There is no such profession.

Read about the 10,000 hour idea to master anything.

According to other people I was good at what i did (after college) and calculating how much time it took me to master what I did - low and behold - 10,000 hours and I went through 2 such cycles so far.

Trading will be the 3rd one and it does not seem to be any different than the previous two.

It was just ignorance and arrogance that led me to believe that I can do it better and faster than most people.

It is a humbling and frustrating experience.

I am not where I want to be (prefectionist, you know :) ) but I am very close.

I like to call trading THE NEXT NUT THAT I HAVE TO CRACK.

Take care

Gabe

Back on track today. Bought es around 1083, in retrospect great entry for the day.

Wow!! Very nice trading, bathrobe. May I ask in general terms what your trades were? After the great ES entry @ 1083, did you ride the entire position all the way to the exit or did u trade around?

Btw, I have been reading this thread from the start and it has been real instructive for a n00b like me. So thanks all for sharing. :)

No, I exited at resistance, I did not hold for the day.
