Continuous Contract Charts

Recommended Posts

I use OEC so getting price history is hard and sometimes impossible for longer time periods.

Does anyone know of the cheapest way to get continuous contract charts spanning multiple years. Probably the longest I would be looking back would be 10 years.

Cheap, long term charts.

I'm not sure what the most efficient way to do this is Dinero, but you could sign up for a data service like DTN, download as much as you can and then unsubscribe. From there you would then want to try to take the data from OEC and mesh it into 1 large database... How you do this, I have no idea or if it's even possible with OEC data. I know MultiCharts creates data databases when you load it up there. So I guess in theory you could get DTN, plug it into MultiCharts, get the database built and then have it there. But that requires a MultiCharts subscription then.

You can also plug eSignal data into OEC charts, but I'm not sure how that data would be stored for future use (if at all). Here's info on the eSignal plugin.

I'll look into this. Hopefully, there is someone out there that already went through this challenge and found a good solution. We'll see what I can turn up.

open a small account at Tradestation and do min trades.

if just want a timeframe or 2 -- download data to excel and then drop tradestation.

That's not a bad idea if TS has you what you want. Of course then you have to learn a new charting and order entry system so that may not be what you are looking for either.

The simplest way I think is the eSignal plugin. You'll have to buy eSignal data, but maybe they have a delayed and/or end of day only package you can use?

I have been through this already so if you want daily and or 30-min S&P Futures (ES) data, I can just post it for you. no charge :). Have it back through 12/31/01 --- which is about when the e-mini really started to get liquid.

Thanks frank. I don't trade the ES but I appreciate the offer. I am mostly looking at Oil (CL), Soybeans (ZS), and Russel (TF or RLM-OEC).

No problem, here is Soybeans pit back till 1983. There is a period of 2-3 years missing in the early 2000 era.

You've exposed my inexperience.

How does the Soybeans pit relate to the non-pit contract? I haven't gotten around to learning the differences.

Pit covers different session times. They are traded on the floor instead of Globex which is traded electronically.

Pit session is from 9:30am to 13:15pm Chicago time.

Also note that the electronic contract has not been around longer than the pit. So the pit carries more historical data. More info: Soybeans (pit also known as open outcry)

Ive been informed that Soybeans on Globex was launched on January 13, 2008.

    • Question: To those that had/have cancer, what were the signs that made you think “something is not right here” to make you go see a doctor? Answer: So, 5/25/2018, I woke up, got ready for work, and as I walked to my car, I started gagging. Like something was stuck in my throat and I needed to clear it. And then it went away.   But 10 minutes after that, I was T-boned at 40mph on the driver side door. But what made me see a doctor was while my muscles felt better and bruises were going away, the gagging still continued, I started having fevers, my neck felt swollen, I was having such a hard time breathing, and I'd have random sharp pains in my chest, but not from where the seat belt saved me.   2 weeks after the accident, I finally see an urgent care doctor, who looks me over, tells me I'm fine, but luckily requests a neck X-ray. And I ask for a chest X-ray, which he rolls his eyes but let me have (most of my pain was in the neck, so I understand).   The very next day, he calls and says “So, that chest X-ray shows there's a 4 inch mass on your heart and lungs, and your lungs have been filling up with fluid, as well as in your pericardial (heart) wall. We need you to come in tomorrow.”   Turns out the big mass, due to the accident, caused my heart and lungs to tear and fill with fluid, the swollen neck and gagging was caused by 2 metastasized tumors, and the fevers and weight loss were symptoms. Stage 4b Hodgkin's Lymphoma.   But thankfully, we went very aggressive with chemo (and had a lot of bad side effects that don't normally happen to patients), and now I'm about 16 months cancer-free. Yay lucky X-rays! • As a man, the reality of life is the harshest part. I don’t mind looking older or becoming weaker over time; it’s nature.   Have you ever heard that the only people who will be loved unconditionally are women and children? Men will only be loved as long as they can provide until they are no longer needed. It doesn’t matter if you already did your best to get your kids to the best school or get the best things for them, if you stop before they’re done with it, there will be no thank you. The only thing they will remember is that they have to quit school at 15, ignoring all the previous 15 years of life you provided for them. The only people who will accept you, no matter what, are your parents. But in this situation, you might be that ungrateful child.   EDIT: Wow, I didn’t think this would get so much attention.   For those who disagree, I can only say that everyone has their problem. If you don’t get the chance to face such a thing, be grateful. Remember, sometimes what you throw in the garbage is something that someone wishes ever to have.” – ElZee, Quora   Profits from free accurate cryptos signals: https://www.predictmag.com/
