My Trading Method

Recommended Posts

I thought by exposing my method, setups, risk and money approach it would give others an idea of what needs to go into creating your own trading plan and trading system.

It took me a long time to first find the trade signals that were more reliable than others, and to look beyond the standard system generated signals. Since this started with a bought mechanical system that by itself looked decent, I found myself spinning my wheels in the beginning since it is true that it is not the system, but whether or not you can work the system that is crucial. I had to find a way to qualify the signals beyond the canned system, and a way to actually make money consistently beyond the colored bars and signal arrows. So, the rules were devised as a result of using this canned system in real time and observing where it failed, and where it succeeded. Also, I had to find a way to reliably get back in if I hesitated taking the canned signal. The reasons for hesitating are many. Most prominent is that if you do not understand why a signal is generated by a canned system, then you must have complete faith in it to trade it. That is something no system has been able to do for me. My success rate to first target is greater than 80%. My style is a scalpers approach. I use the first contract to buy some or all of my risk for the second contract. I use the volitility marker to trail when I can, and sometimes I use the last bar hi/lo mark. I used the range bars that have been color changed to reflect a moving average, and a trade channel that is also color coded. I used the cci filter that has been color coded. The reason for the colors was to make it easier for me to visually identify confluence across the chart. I know there are a lot of purists out there that would choke on these charts. So what. What you need to do is find out what works for you and not listen to the spartans, or the purists, or anybody else. If you are butt ugly and your charts look butt ugly and your style is wild and weird doesn't matter. What matters is what works for you. However, I can tell you that the simpler the better in most cases, and the more you concentrate on the price bars the easier it will get. At this point I trade a bit differently than what you see here. I take long signals on the red bars, shorts on the blue, I get in sooner, stay longer, I turned off the arrows, eliminated the range bands and almost always ignore the CCi except when it approaches the zero line. Anyways, here is the method I used before I got past the colors. You can duplicate everything you see here using Trade Navigator or just about any good charting package. So I have omitted where I bought the tools so that you not focus on them. What you focus on is a sample of someones method and style and start to consider what you need to do to create your own based on your results and what you need to get consistent results. I was fortunate in that I started with a decent canned mechanical system, and took my time to make it work for me.

Also I have included two counter trend setups. It is a method taught to me and it is stepping in front of the freight train. The last setup is one I noticed as a result of using range bars for the last few years. If you are going to use it keep in mind it only works well at key areas of support or resistance or at the extreme outer ranges of a clearly defined price trading channel.

This is the first time I am publically defining my methods and setups, so I hope it is clear enough to give you a good starting point towards devising your own. I am not concerned about whether it works for you, since as mentioned before, it's whether you can work it that will make the difference.

I was a student in one of Ed's rooms a while back. I appreciated his sincere and constructive approach and allowed me to think independently and find my own path (albeit, a "butt ugly" and bloody path to consistency and sustainability).

Best wishes Ed.

Duke.

Relax, Tams - do you know Ed to say that?

Tams was just making sure he made his 3.54 posts per day quota

Seriously though, chill dude, 99% of all trading materials on the web are scams, we just have to be educated enough to pick out the good bits and put it in our plan, just because they interpret something one way doesn't mean we can't do it a better way ;)

Tams,

There are plenty of nonsensical posts out there including a few of yours. And I've seen you defending people running the big scam.

So, if someone wants to say that someone is genuine in their opinion why don't you leave them alone unless its a pattern of behaviour. There are moderators.

I'd like to thank the OP for offering something that readers could perhaps use to help their own trading along.

You guys know that I'm not too fond of spammers - direct or stealth. So far, this thread has provided some trading ideas that someone could take and work with. Up to this point, the OP has provided info that could be useful and a retail trader could work with.

    • Date: 9th May 2024.   Market Insights: The BOE’s Potential Dovish Pivot and Current Indications.     The Bank of England is in focus as the regulator will confirm their rate decision and how their future monetary policy path may look. The GBP trades sideways but the FTSE100 continues to trade higher. Economists are contemplating if the market is pricing a dovish tilt by the BOE. The Dow Jones was Wednesday’s best performing index, rising 0.48%. The DJIA’s best performing stock was Amgen which rose 2.33%. Federal Reserve members continue to apply further pressure on the market’s sentiment with more indications that inflation is too high. GBPUSD – Investors Focusing on A Potential Upcoming Dovish Pivot! The GBPUSD trades sideways and did not form a significant trend the day before. This morning the price trades slightly in favour of the US Dollar, however most institutions are waiting for confirmation from the Bank of England on monetary policy adjustment. The price movement will depend on the future guidance of the Governor and the Monetary Policy Committee’s votes.   The market is expecting the interest rate to remain at 5.25%. However, there’s anticipation that regulators may hint at upcoming monetary policy easing, potentially impacting the Pound. Analysts anticipate a shift to a “dovish” policy this year but differ on timing. Most foresee changes in June or August, possibly with two 25-point rate cuts. The price of the GBP will depend on when the BOE will indicate a rate cut is likely. If 1 or 2 members of the MPC vote for a cut and the Governor advises they are now considering a cut, then the GBP potentially could decline based on a June rate cut. Market participants are anticipating a dovish indication due to inflation declining for 3 consecutive months and declining to a 32-month low. In addition to this, the UK’s employment change has weakened for 2 consecutive months as has the UK GDP growth. Traders can see the market is pricing a dovish indication due to the GBP’s decline over the past 3 days as well as the bullish price movement seen on the FTSE100.   USA30 – When Will The Buy Signal Again Become Active? The Dow Jones was the best-performing US index as investors increased their exposure due to its connection with defensive stocks. 70% of the Dow Jones’ components rose in value and the best performing stocks were Amgen, Boeing and JP Morgan which all rose more than 2.00%. The next influential earnings report for the Dow will come from Home Depot next Tuesday morning. Investors are expecting a 23% rise in earnings compared to the previous quarter. In addition to this, analysts expect revenue to rise, and traders should note the company has beaten expectations over the past 4 reports. Home Depot stocks hold a weight within the Dow Jones of 5.78%.   The price of the index continues to trade above the 75-Bar EMA and above the “neutral” point on the RSI. These factors indicate buyers are controlling the market. However, this morning the price is retracing, therefore a buy signal will not be active unless the price rises above $39,091 which is the breakout level, or at least forms a bullish crossover (8-bar EMA & 18-bar SMA).
