Portable Trading

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Looking to purchase something to be able to trade portable - for the times when you need to do something and your not in the office or at home.

I would love a small, PDA-type of hardware that could run an order book or (ideally) a price ladder. If it could run Trading Technologies software, I'd be in heaven.

I'm not one for half-doing something, I wouldn't be reliant on it (I have a full setup at the office & at home), just for a) monitoring positions and b) for the times where something fundamental occurs and you need quick action.

Appreciate input, especially if you are already doing something like this.

Cheers.

Not sure if you want to go down this route, but have you ever tried VNC (Virtual Network Computing)? There are many different breeds out there. UltraVNC is one of the popular free ones. If you are using a pda you would need to get a compatible VNC viewer. Many of them come with small web servers so you can choose to view it (no control) via any java compatible browser. I have been using VNC for many tasks (including trading) for many years now. It's nice being able to stick my thumb drive into any computer and instantly view all my systems or flipping through all my monitors upstairs on the laptop. As far as speed, it mainly depends on how efficient you make your settings on both the server and user application. In other words, if you don't want to view a large detailed full colored view of the application it can practically be real time.

You might want to take a look into it or a similar kind of technology versus worrying about an actual trading application...just a thought. :)

Just to specify...I know that this question was originally about hardware. However, my point is that through VNC technology the doors open greatly as to what can be used. :)

I have used VNC actually, it's quite good. Maybe that's the best route, rather than trying to run the app itself.

I suppose having the internet on the actual device would be enough of a backup just incase the VNC server went down. That would probably be the main concern.

Any recommendations as far as the PDAs go?

Thanks!

but you ll have access to a computer, not yours but any computer, i manage to virtualize almost all the markets apps I use so they run from a usb device on any computer. But if you dont have access to a computer you have to go with a smart phone or an ultra portable subnotebook

    • Question: To those that had/have cancer, what were the signs that made you think “something is not right here” to make you go see a doctor? Answer: So, 5/25/2018, I woke up, got ready for work, and as I walked to my car, I started gagging. Like something was stuck in my throat and I needed to clear it. And then it went away.   But 10 minutes after that, I was T-boned at 40mph on the driver side door. But what made me see a doctor was while my muscles felt better and bruises were going away, the gagging still continued, I started having fevers, my neck felt swollen, I was having such a hard time breathing, and I'd have random sharp pains in my chest, but not from where the seat belt saved me.   2 weeks after the accident, I finally see an urgent care doctor, who looks me over, tells me I'm fine, but luckily requests a neck X-ray. And I ask for a chest X-ray, which he rolls his eyes but let me have (most of my pain was in the neck, so I understand).   The very next day, he calls and says “So, that chest X-ray shows there's a 4 inch mass on your heart and lungs, and your lungs have been filling up with fluid, as well as in your pericardial (heart) wall. We need you to come in tomorrow.”   Turns out the big mass, due to the accident, caused my heart and lungs to tear and fill with fluid, the swollen neck and gagging was caused by 2 metastasized tumors, and the fevers and weight loss were symptoms. Stage 4b Hodgkin's Lymphoma.   But thankfully, we went very aggressive with chemo (and had a lot of bad side effects that don't normally happen to patients), and now I'm about 16 months cancer-free. Yay lucky X-rays!
