  1. Very interesting post Brownsfan. I'm reading Schwager's The New Market Wizards and what you describe sounds familiar to something I read there but I don't remember the specifics. Right now with my trading I'm getting to a point where I'm starting to pay more attention to the DOM. On the YM sometimes there are orders over 100 and those orders stand out. I like to see those orders on my side of the trade, but since I don't have enough experience watching how these big orders play out I'm not willing to trade off of them unless there is another reason for the trade.

  2. I tried Interactive brokers simulater and was not satisfied with it for daytrading eminis. I also tried Ninja Trade briefly but it did not appeal to me. I'm interested in Infinity, but I think they intend it as a demo rather than a simulator, so not sure if they will allow a long term use of it. Currently I'm using Open E Cry.

  3. James - that is a ton of new dogs all at once! Wow! I am a dog lover myself, but that's quite a few new friends in a short period of time.

I've had a cocker spaniel for 13 years now. She's getting older and it's hard to think about my trading day w/o her, but we enjoy the time while we got it.

Here's a recent pic. We had family pic's taken recently decided that she needed some good pic's too! (she loves tennis balls).

Nice looking dog Brownsfan. She looks very pampered.

  4. Cute pup, Abe. Baxter is an ultra cuddle dog, too. He follows me around just as your rot does. My lab/greyhound on the other hand.....she's a handful. She'll run anywhere there is space.

Abe, that is one sharp dog! That's an absolutely beautiful dog man.

    Thanks guys.

  5. Hello. Here are some pics of my best bud. I just couldn't resist. His hobbies are cuddling and walking. Every morning when my alarm sounds he comes to me a starts to cuddle.

I trained him to walk without a leash, which we're both happy about. The commands he knows are to slow down, stay, go certain direction, and often he understands what I mean even if he doesn't know the words. He's actually very good at walking without a leash, even in busy streets in the center of town, which is where I originally taught him how to walk when I was living close to a university.

There is a pic there of his dog house which I built for him. It is insulated all around, top and bottom with pink panther insulation. It needs some shingles. But unfortunately some wasps have made their home their. I knocked their home down several times but they rebuilt it and now it is a huge wasp house. So he stays away from there, which for him is good because he gets to spend more time in the house.

  6. I have a rott/lab mix and a greyhound/lab mix. My rott mix is the coolest dog I've ever met.

Ahhhh. That's so cute. Mix of 2 of very cute dogs, Lab and Rottweiler. I have a Rottweiler. He's about 6 years old. He's very cute and smart. It's great fun.

  7. So at the old age of 19 (20 next month) I'm still living at home. For some reason I thought buying myself a Mercedes-Benz was cooler than my own apartment.

Well a few months ago my mom came home with a dog, totally random. No big deal, I like dogs and my old dog died back in January (She was 17, I had her since I was 5). Moving forward to 4 weeks ago, ANOTHER dog shows up and again my mom just runs out and buys the dog without consulting anyone. After being slightly irritated I got over it and now I like the dog.

Today comes around, and I got home rather early since I decided not to go to the CU vs FSU game in Boulder. I played a hard game of Basketball at the CU recreation center then drove home and immediately flopped on the couch, turned on the 65" tv and waited patiently for the Nebraska vs USC game. Right about the end of the 1st quarter I heard the garage door open, but it took a while for everyone to come inside - I really didn't think anything of it.

I heard the door open and turned around to say hi, only to see this white dog come into the house. I was a little shocked, and thought maybe they found him on the street and took him home while they found the owner. I was wrong, she went out again and bought a 3rd dog. Now there are 4 animals in my house, and it's getting slightly annoying.

I like dogs, but I don't want three of them. She might as well go out and start up a kennel if she's so obsessed with puppies. I like the dog a lot though, he's smart and doesn't take shit from the jackass dog we have. He reminds me a lot of my first dog, not very into playing around but will always hold his own.

Congradulations James. Perhpas you can provide some photos of your dogs.

  8. Hey Brownsfan. I use Sierra Chart for now. It was a step up from the Interactive Brokers charting.

I'm not very impressed with Sierra Chart. I have one chartbook with 4 charts in it. As far as I know it doesn't allow me to view the charts in different windows. I'm forced to view all the charts from the same window and to flip through them I have to press F4 to go back a chart and F9 to go forward a chart.

I'm also not impressed with their contract symbol entry system. For example, with Interactive Brokers to get a quote of YM all I have to do is type YM and it gives me several choices, one of them is Futures, and when I chose that it has choices of contracts. With Sierra Chart it is not automatic like that. When I first started Sierra Chart it was a bit of a hassle to figure out their contract symbol system.

And I don't think Sierra Chart offers chart trading. For example, it doesn't allow me to quickly adjust stops by moving a stop line on the chart. There is an order entry window, but I'm looking for a platform that allows me to trade directly from the chart and quickly adjust stops by simply moving a stop line on a chart rather then manually type in the number.

Also, on my Sierra Chart I was not able to place vertical grid lines. It is in the menu as an option but when I click on it it doesn not work. The horizontal grid lines work.

Hello. I just want to add regarding my highlighted comment above that Sierra chart may allow you to view multiple charts on different monitors. At the Infinity webinar this morning the host said that there is a way to view the charts on multiple monitors. I did not figure out how to do that when I was using Sierra. And I'm not certain if the host understood my question. Either way, if you are interested in using Sierra you might want to look into that.

  9. I got beat up on the opening gap. I let price fall a bit then I went long for a halfway gap fill. The trade was working out and I was looking around the ES for other setups. Then my dog started running around the house, and I had to catch him. I came back to a 50YM loss :( I closed out the trade before I was stopped out, but that sucked. Nothing really I can do, I followed the plan exactly how it was laid out - just didn't work today.

The second was a doji that I let my emotions get to me, I didn't hold long enough and sold for a loss only to re-enter the next candle and make a small gain. I realized I was getting emotional so now I'm just watching for the day - no trading.

Sounds like the right decision James.

  10. Hello. I'm sorry I missed the morning session. I was away at a job orientation. I will be working on and off for the next few months, so some days I will be around for regular market hours.

I'm stopping the detailed annotations of my trades and see how it works out. It is very labor intensive and keeps my attention away from the market. I want to thank the people who have been looking at my trades and advising me. You have been enormously helpful and I hope that I can return the favor.

  11. If you really want to save the $24/mo at OEC, just sign up for the demo again with a different e-mail when your account expires.

Or deposit say, $50K with them, start pushing volume and maybe you'll get the same deal as Brownie did, and they'll waive the monthly fee for your demo.

Too much trouble IMO. I will close my IB account and save the $10 per month that I get charged for not trading. Their technoloy is very poor for day trading.

  12. Did you try Bracket trader i did and it works good for me

    http://www.bracket-trader.com

    mkp14

Thanks mkp14. I'm moved away from IB to Open E Cry for my paper trades. It's $24 or something around there per month for simulator account, but it is the best deal I could find. Good charting, good DOM, clean and user friendly. I tried Ninja Trader's simulator acccount running on IB feed. Other than the fact that the Ninja Trade part is free I'm not impressed with it. So it looks like I'll be staying with the Open E Cry for paper trading.

  13. Hello. Just wanted to point out a couple of trend lines that I drew earlier this weekend that were and may be significant today. The upper most and middle trend lines. The middle trend line broke down later, so I drew a 3rd trend line today. Then price went up to the middle trend line, looked like it was going to kiss it goodbye. But instead it hugged it for several hours and recently broke through.

  14. Abe,

I asked my OEC contact the same question, and here's what he suggested:

    There is good volume on:

LIFFE - Eurodollar, Euribor, FTSE 100

EUREX - DAX, DJ EuroSTOXX 50, EuroBund, EuroBobl, Euribor

We'll be turning on Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong in the next 30 days that will open up more possibilities. We're thinking about KRX (Korea) which has the KOSPI (the most widely traded contract in the world) but we are waiting on the approval to come through allowing US customers to trade this product before we move on that. Right now, we would only be able to offer that to our foreign customers.

Thanks Brownsfan. I will look into those.

  15. Hello. I plan to work a regular job for a while to pay some bills. So I'm wondering what to trade after work. I looked into Nikkei, which opens at 8PMCT. But it is not available on Open E Cry yet. They're in the process of adding it. So I'm looking for something else until Nikkei becomes available. Any suggestions?
