Just to prove I look over this great site very closely.......

It still says "Marketing Scientists" i/o of "Market Scientists" on the Traders Laboratory logo on the lower right of page.

    Cheers

Hi Moyyim, I appreciate the notices as I did not even notice this myself. We have managed to change this up. Thanks again.

  2. My understanding is that it is now possible for ad banners to add tracking cookies to a users computer by simply being viewed, i.e. no click through is necessary. But I am not a programmer, and that information is based on what I have "heard," so unless it is verified by someone or some source that is more technologically knowledgable than I, I'd take it with the proverbial grain of salt. I was simply conjecturing as to why it was only when those particular ads were displayed that my computer cpu spiked so high.

Hi thalestrader, we fixed the formatting of the ads and seems to have fixed the issues you had brought up. I am hoping that the changes will also reflect on your end. Please do let me know if you still experience spikes in CPU. Thank you and I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Regards,

    James

  3. The formatting of the banners when uploading into our ad management system went wrong. We are trying to fix this issue at the moment.

I have never seen anything like it anywhere. Maybe those ads have some sort of heavy duty spyware attached to them and the cpu spikes are due to attempt at covert installation. I'm just guessing, of course. But TL loads and runs fine so long as the page does not have those FXOpen ads.

Is this even possible out of curiosity? These are .swf files... we currently do not support the recent fancy formats.

  4. Thanks diablo, this has been fixed. What we are trying to do now is to enhance the private threads area so members can freely create private threads, invite other members, and have the ability to remove and add new users into their threads as well. The error script code was due to bugs within this new system we are trying to implement but has been fixed now. Thanks.

  5. Just tried it again - cpu usage measures between 0-4% and whenever I load a TL page with an FXOpen ad, cpu usage spikes and hovers between 88-98%. This is on repeated tests. The second I close the TL window, cpu usage immediately drops to normal and safe levels.

I guess I'll be off TL until those ads are changed.

    Best Wishes,

    Thales

    Hi Thales,

I am temporary halting those ads and looking into this issue. Thanks.

  6. Received this book from a friend in Bloomberg. The book discusses various examples of financial risk mainly within the derivatives market. It is also a very simplified read on how swaps work.

Dealing with Financial Risk covers detailed stories on LTCM, Metallgesellschaft, and Mulhouse Brand. It also addresses the importance of risk officers, their roles and models, the role of regulatory agencies, and a few insights on how insiders deal with financial crisis. A reader looking to obtain further insights into to how risks are transferred within the financial industry may find this book interesting. A trader looking to gain an edge in his strategy will find this book dull and boring.

What I particulary liked about this book is the insights into how major banks and regulators socialize to make key financial decisions. Here is a particular excerpt from the book:

American bank: "We are willing to take the hit if the market value of these options goes down, but not if they decide that they can't pay and won't pay."

Greenspan: "We're prepared to support the American banks on this line."

American bank: "Unless we have an agreement we're shorting the D-mark with everything we have tomorrow."

Greenspan: "We'de better let them know that."

  7. Product Description from Amazon

Risk is an intrinsic component of finance that both dictates and complicates investments and companies. This book offers an exceptionally thorough and ambitious introduction to financial risk and risk management—direct from the capital markets editor of The Economist.

Dealing with Financial Risk presents key concepts in a simple and entertaining way by explaining the endeavors, mistakes, and successes of others as they tried to identify, measure, and simplify risk and make it work for them. It includes analysis of some of the recent corporate disasters and what each has added to the understanding of financial risk, including Baring Brothers in 1995, Long-Term Capital Management in 1998, and Enron in 2001. In addition, the book explores the risks of the financial system as a whole and analyzes recent attempts to ensure greater stability within the system.

This book will become a standard introduction to the concept of financial risk and the realities of financial risk management. Written for the intelligent layman as well as for a company or bank executive or a student who needs an introduction or refresher course on risk, Dealing with Financial Risk capitalizes on the pervasiveness and persistence of the topic.

  8. The pivot calculator has been removed. It was creating problems for us and instead of redeveloping the page, I have decided to eliminate it instead. Frankly, many platforms already have these tools as an indicator and the demand on the pivot page was rather low. Thanks.

  9. Not sure if this has been reported yet, but I noticed that the "Views" count for a particular thread has stopped updating.

Hi Ant, thank you for the notification. I have reported this bug to my coder as well. We currently have a list of about 15 bugs that we are fixing in order. Im hoping to get all these resolved within the next few days. Thanks.

  10. Just tested with Chrome 4.0.204 (a bit bleeding edge as well) and had the same issue.

Actually James. Something that is a feature here is a negative from my view. When I log on again (i use the getnew function: http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew) then pages I just exited don't show which makes it hard to get back to them (harder).

Is there a search function that picks up the last 24 or 36 hours showing threads since last search above some line? I guess I can just use the front page if not.

Also, I don't seem to be able to delete a post I've just left so the test post is still there. Deletion so that only mods can see what was left behind seems to me to be a function that results in tidier threads.

    Hi Kiwi,

I have reported this to our coders. Its clearly a bug we left out and need to implement.

Regarding the browser issue, I will look into this asap. Thanks.

  11. Twice this morning I've noticed that when I post I go back to the page but it doesnt show my post. If I press F5 it does.

Now, I'm running firefox 3.7alpha so I couldn't guarantee its a site problem.

    Hi Kiwi,

I noticed this too on firefox and with other sites as well. I havent seen this problem in any other browser as of yet. I suspecting its a firefox issue but am having my coders look into this. Thanks.

  12. I have tried copying code posted in a Code Box to Tradestation EasyLanguage. When I paste it though, it looses its formatting and everything in the code box runs into one giant sentence making it virtually impossible to read. It does verify okay, but I would like to see and possibly edit the code. What am I doing wrong? :crap:

I have windows Vista, am using Firefox 3.0.1.3 and Tradestation 8.6 Build 2612

    Thanks,

    Cindy

We fixed the issue by including a scroll down option. Please let me know if you are still seeing this issue. Thank you.

  13. Just wondering if it is just me, but everytime I try to start it, it just sits at the initialization screen.

This has been since after market close on Friday, around the time of the new site upgrades I would imagine?

    Thanks,

    Forrest

Hi Forrest, thanks for the notice. I am looking into this now.

  14. Hi Soultrader,

On the Home and Forum main pages under “Featured Forums” at the bottom, clicking Market Profile takes you to the Candlestick Corner instead.

Also, do you need to include the Registered/Trademark symbol for MP?

Excellent site design. A big Thumbs Up!

Thanks ochie, the errors have been fixed and trademark removed for now. However, I am not sure if it needs to be included so may need to add this later again.

  15. I like the new design, but we now have about 3 inches of fluff between each post. It's got to the point of being quite difficult to find the post on the page. If you actually want to read through a thread you have to use the print view.

Is there any chance of putting this stuff to the side of the posts rather than in-line where it interferes with reading the thread. Or even better have a way of hiding it. Maybe collapse the post header down to a compact form with a little [+] button. On other sites turning off avatars and sigs leaves you with a pretty easy to read format. Not so with TL.

I've just noticed the format of the topic review you get when composing a reply. Something like that would be great.

Thank you for your feedbacks. The request to minimize the space between posts have been sent. A collapsible format including the header would be rather difficult.
