    Isis

ISIS Pharmaceuticals just signed a deal which is expected to skyrocket. Genzyme and Isis inked a deal where Genzyme would buy $5M shares at $30 a share, and Genzyme will pay Isis $350M in licensing fees. Isis will also receive up to $750M in commercial milestone payments and $825M in development. As per the deal, the profit will split 70/30 for Genzyme/Isis until the $2B mark is met and then each company will get 50% of the profits. The drug is called Mipomersen and it is a cholesterol reduction drug. This is expected to
  2. Take a look at STP. Some are suggesting it will hit 110 by Friday....others in the next 2-3 months but all agree that it definitely will. This would be a nice time to get in, the price dropped to 73.90 this morning. Another market factor may have made it take a hit today as alot of other solar stocks are also down despite AKNS and STP signing an agreement to distribute solar panels in Japan, Europe, and Australia.
  3. There is another plus which no one has mentioned yet which is the lack of viruses for Mac's. No need for antivirus or anti-spyware so the computer does run quicker. If you are going to run parallels, you could do so and dedicate the windows side to just trading and install a firewall to prevent hacking. So long as you don't peruse some of the less scrupulous sites or download email attachments on the windows side, antivirus, to me at least, is not necessary. So long as you can maintain strict discipline with your browsing habits you can get away with alot less. If you so desire, the mac mini may work. It can be configured from Apple to come with 2GB of RAM. If you are only running trading software at the times you are trading and not applications that hog the memory, it should be more than adequate. I've been quite surprised with what my mini can do (photoshop and the like)
  4. I do hope alternative energy companies continue to grow as it will bring more awareness and higher stock prices. CSUN has been up and down for a while and been public for about 8 months now and still not reached the point where it is trading at a price equivalent or above its IPO price. Given the alternative energy demand though, it may climb above $16 early next year. The last thing China cares about is solar energy as a new coal powerplant is coming online, what, every week or so?! Alternative energy demands are coming from the States and EU, not China. For FSLR, that stock is running. Dec 21st it was $249 and now it is trading above $280 and was up over $8 today. Their profit margin is over 28% of their business and in the 3rd quarter had $159M in revenue, up from $134M in all of 2006. Their total assets have also doubled since 2006. From Arizona. SOLF is another company up 30% since Dec 21st. I don't know what is driving this, but with a stock price of $36, it sure is pretty. Their rate of growth is slower than FSLR, but still strong. Based out of China as well. AKNS looks good but they make solar energy panels for the consumer and small business. With the housing crunch, many people will not be going for it and most small business won't be able to afford such types of power. The other above companies help create powerplants. SPWR also makes parts for powerplants but has only gained about $10 per share since Dec 21. The total revenue is still not as strong, gain wise, as FSLR or SOLF. Me being a newb, I think that they look pretty attractive to ride for a bit. Feel free to rip me if I'm wrong though
  5. Thank you! I saw the emini idea on here, but if individuals are suggesting against it then I won't go that route. I've been looking at individual stocks and playing with a simulator and doing quite well but admittedly am following trades of investors who have a proven track record with cheaper stocks. I'd rather buy 400 shares of a $5 stock than 20 shares of a $100 stock and work my way up from there.
  6. I'm thinking of DVI for streaming TV and market news. I'm just thinking quality. Certainly no games though. I'm a tech geek too and would rather build my own desktop than laptop.
  7. Hi. I'm new to TL. I've recently become interested in the stock market again. I traded on a stock simulator a few years ago and when I worked for Apple and am almost hanging myself for not investing in them 4 years ago  Anyways, I'm looking to get back into the market. I'm not in yet and just started trading on the simulator again. I've looked at FOREX, the regular markets, and emini futures. I understand how FOREX and the regular markets work but I have not seen a thorough explanation or dedicated broker that serves emini's but I may have been looking in the wrong places. I don't have $50K to invest with and recently moved to a new city (hence the 78704), so my startup capital is fairly low. I will begin with investing a few thousand and start from there. Disciplining myself with gains is an absolute for me. I still am learning stops, but am not sure if those are available on emini's. I did do great on the Nuance IPO though and previously on an IPO for biotech, so I'm not totally ignorant to markets. I do like IPO's though, so I may stick in that area to build capital. Opinions?
  8. I think the easiest way to prevent this if your friend is adverse to changing brokers is to upgrade the computer. It is a far cheaper alternative than to have another mistake such as this happen. How much software is your friend running? What are their computer specs? Research this and figure out what is best for you. My personal recommendations is a dedicated machine for trading and a laptop I don't think would cut it. Remove all "fun" software such as media players, bloatware, games, and strip it of all but the necessary programs that the operating system would run. Regarding the operating system, I would also recommend Windows XP Professional. Vista is not yet integrated with all peripherals and if they have any trading software downloaded there is no guarantee that it will work with Vista. In addition, Vista requires a massive amount of RAM to run. Processor speed should be in excess of 2.5GB. RAM should be above 2GB. I would also recommend a dual DVI flat screen setup to run multiple charts with easy visibility. note: I represent no computer company, work for no computer company, and am only a computer geek working his way into the markets.
