Domain Buying/Selling Business

Recommended Posts

Anyone in the domain trading business? It's been my recent hobby collecting unique domain names. About $8 or so to register a .com and usually goes for multiples of it. My first sale recently netted 25x my initial investment. Just took part in a local auction and bought http://www.mobilenews.jp for about $300. Obviously looking to flip this domain a for a few thousand or more preferably to mobile related businesses in Japan.

Anyone have any experience with this?

It definitly is an investment vehicle.

I realized this the first time I wanted to register a Domain. The domain name I wanted was listed for around 1K, I didnt want it that bad.

When cell phones first came out many were buying the easy to remebr (xxx-0000) number and then leasing or selling them. for example I have a phone number that ends with four zeros and back about 7 years ago I recieved offeres between 5K -10k for it... I still have the number.

With Domains I think there is still much potential out there, but it was a really good investment idea in the early 90's... that was when you could register some nice domains and make a killing on them.

Nowadays people are just whoring the keywords for Google. The only decent ones left will be expiring without renewal or new products.

I'm tempted to bundle up a bunch of niche domains soon, but ultimately you have to build traffic and rank for anyone to raise an eye lid!

Glad you found some nice ones!

AFAIK people who register sound domain names are called cybersquatters.

I think the main wave of such operations already gone but if anyone manages to think off a good name and register it through DNS the profit from this idea can be quite large,
