Mobil Broadband

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was wondering if it is feasable to use my laptop to

trade live, and fast, stocks & futures markets using a mobile broadband USB Modem.

This is of course for traveling. willI run into large data fees? The provider_

Verizon_ does not have a clue. I really only need to run 2 or 3 symbols at

a time. I quess a big stock or the ES would stream a lot of data. The service

is set up for 5 GIG a month.

Thanks RJ

Hi RJ,

I use Verizon mobile broadband full time for trading. As I often travel this works great. However, I have unlimited service with Verizon so I don't really know if you'll run into problems with a cap at 5 gigs. The unlimited service is $60/month (if you already have an account with them) and works quite well. However, I run into short periods of disconnect with my data provider (IB) when the connection is less than stellar. To this end I use an external antennae to boost the signal which works amazingly well. This is the Wilson Trucker's antennae for $80 and plugs into my Verizon (Sierra) wireless USB modem. The only problem with it is that it's a bit clunky to drag around with me but sets up wonderfully in my RV.

I don't worry too much if I lose connection with IB once my order is placed because my front end (ButtonTrader) places my stop and profit target on the IB server at the time of my fill.

Hope this helps,

EZ

Hello EZ trader. thanks for the info.. My deal is that I travel to the Fla.

Keys for about 1 month a year. I never know where I will be staying and

not many rentals even have phones let alone high speed Int. Once I'm there

and set up, mobility is no prob so ext. modem power or extra ant. is OK.

I was thinking about Verizons " Day Pass " service. Thats where you buy the

modem and they will sell you air time for 9.99 a day . So if I'm out fishing

I don't logon that day. Bad weather I trade. Good weather I fish. The wind

can blow for weeks at a time down there. Take care and Kudo's R.J.

Hi,

Actually, I sail out of Ft. Lauderdale and head down to the Keys or over to the Bahamas. I know, tough life. My Verizon air card is good for about 10 miles offshore. Anyway, I use a Verizon (Sierra) AC595U USB modem with an external antennae jack. The Wilson Trucker's antennae multiplys the signal strength very significantly, perhaps by a factor of 10.

Most profitable trading to all,

EZ
