  1. Very interesting topic, as I have been exploring meditation most recently. To the question of motivation of trading beyond that of money, I would suggest that trading is a way for one to stay focused in the present -- because as Eckhart Tolle has stated, "the present is all that there ever is." Success in trading (and in life) demands that we remain in the now (the present moment). Thinking about past or future only creates fear, anxiety and worry -- things that we all know can destroy our trading career. There is an EXCELLENT book recommended by veteran trader, Jeff Quinto entitled "Transcending Fear: The Doorway to Freedom" by Brian Germain. This book has done wonders in my evolution as a trader! Germain, a professional World Champion skydiver, talks about overcoming fear as it relates to skydiving, but the techniques can be easily applied to just about any situation. He discusses to great length the importance of meditation, as well as being able to relax, focus and flow in the present, as a way to help maintain composure in an emotionally charged situation. Eckhart Tolle has also said that many may use extreme sports or activities as a way to somewhat force the necessity to focus in the present - to be in the zone. So we could very well regard trading in the same manner - as a tool or venue that allows us to live every moment with greater awareness, to transcend our fears and break through our limitations, to transform our very being, ... and in the words of the US Army, to "be all that we can be"!
  2. What is up with Open E Cry? Has anyone got anything out of Tech Support?
  3. You can modify your orders in the DOM even with Trade Mode off. But if I understand you correctly, then yes, you do need Trade Mode on to modify the existing orders.
  4. To add to what JEHs said, I set it up slightly different. I opened a QUOTES Window and placed only the symbols that I trade in the window. Next there is a "Linl to Quotes: icon on both the DOM and Chart Toolbar. Once you link all three you can just click and select the symbol form the Quotes Window and the DOM and Chart change accordingly. Hope it helps.
  5. If both you and Brown recommend having the DOM up as well, I am DEFINITELY going to do it! It's taken me a few days to get comfortable with the charts, as I am completely new to OEC. Chris in Tech Support has been extremely helpful. I finally got off the TS wagon, and I've got all me TA set up in Sierra Chart. Thanks for the tips guys, really appreciate it!
  6. Thanks Brown. I should be going live in a few days and I'll post if anyone is interested.
  7. Hello, Does anyone trade from the charts in OEC. If so, have you experienced any problems? Things seems to work pretty smoothly in the demo. Thanks in advance...
  8. There really is no correlation between readings in eSignal/DTN vs Tradestation. My DTN trail has expired, but in eSignal I can see that the reads are in the same range, eSignal just updates every 6 seconds. I scalp trade, holding anywhere from 15 secs or so up to 2minutes. I've found TS $Ticks to be very helpful with the other indicators I am using. No way could I get the same info using another data feed, though. I contacted both eSignal and DTN over the last couple weeks. Here is their response. DTN: "...we have a request in to get it calculated faster. You are the first customer ever to request our TICK values to be calculated faster so that is interesting. We are currently calculating it faster than everyone BUT Tradestation. " eSignal: " Unfortuantely, there is no way to increase the speed of updates for $TICK indicator. This is the interval at which the data is provided to us. It is possible TradeStation calculates this data themselves and is the reason for the difference in updates. " So at least DTN is working on it. The customer service guy told me he would update me when they have it calculating faster. If you are interested, here is a link from Sierra Chart where quite a few traders had some input. Apparently, the issue is known as "tick bundling" and most data feeds display that way. http://supportboard.sierrachart.com/showthread.php?t=14783 I'm not familiar with the cumulative tick indicator, but in the TS forums, there is info about what's available -- NYSE Total volume, Advancing and Declining Issues. It seems there are a group of traders really interested in getting even more indicators for market internals. I'm not sure if you can access TS forums without being a customer, though. Re fading the top of the range, I have found that to be more difficult to predict. As Soultrader said in his article, once you begin trading with the $TICK, you can begin to develop your own strategies. I'm finding that I can spot some good opportunities as the $TICK goes from positive to negative and vice versa.
  9. Hi SoulTrader, I read your article "NYSE TICK's and TICK Strategies" about a month ago, and it has been a tremendously helpful addition to my current strategy! Thank you so much. Out of curiosity, do you know why TradeStation's feed is one of the few, if not only, to calculate and display the NYSE Tick in real-time? I currently use Tradestation, but was shopping for another service. I've checked eSignal and DTN's IQ Feed and others, but the Update Frequency is 3-6 seconds. You and Hubert Senters are the only traders that I have come across that mention the Tick "Hook". Just wondering if either one of you got TradeStation to get that calculating quickly? Also, if anyone else knows of a data feed that is doing what TS does with the $TICKS, I'd appreciate a shout. Thanks.
