  1. Great Thread Richard! I look forward to the link Happy to see some posters on TL tackle markets from an academic point of view rather than the junk thats promoted/misconstrued in regards to technical analysis
  2. Trading. I'm trying to create a basket of stocks that exhibit mean reverting behaviour, day in, day out
  3. Interesting Ammeo... Any ideas why that may occur? Any advice on how one could quantify this with a group of stocks to determine likelyhood ?
  4. ADD,

Happy new year! I hope all is well on your end!

I wanted to ask you a question in regards to trading with ARMA... I believe that this style of trading is a form of dispersion trading when you trade in accordance to stocks volatility. When you model/trade this do you trade equities, futures or options?

Do you backtest the previous volatilities in order to have a better understanding of the volatilities going forward?

  5. Really appreciate this! I can not even begin to tell you how invaluable this tool is!
  6. Does anyone here use TICKS to trade, specifically on think or swim? I've been looking for them in my indicator studies but can't seem to find them anywhere... is this an add on or is there a specific name for TICKS in tos?
  7. What kind of TA methods do you use in your trading traider?
  8. MMS ever tried arbing the stocks in the ETF's Basket?
  9. Prop traders use charts simply as a visual to enter into a trade However, the criteria for entry is thoroughly developed well before the trade is made. Some methods of technical analysis will help one "Quantify" their entry providing the research and backtesting has been done. If your making your trade solely based on what you see on the chart then yess, you are randomly trading
  10. Could very well be at this point At the end of the day its the big money that moves the markets really (i.e. the more informed traders not the noise traders) I just can;t believe the price action this week. Don't know what to expect if we break 1465; however, I still am looking for a juicy short in this envirnoment
  11. Hey guys, My attention has shifted from futures to stocks right now. My focus specifically is on gaps. What kind of stocks show this type of behaviour time and time again? Should I be looking for stocks with low betas or high alphas? The NYSE universe is fairly large and its easy to get lost in it. I was wondering what kind of criterias should i be looking for if I want to build a system around stocks that constantly gap up or down in the morning Suby
  12. What are some of the main tools that prop firms use ?
  13. We are starring off the cliff as we speak
  14. I realize that the majority of memebers here trade futures; however, if anyone has any idea or advice where I could access all of the issues on the S&P and Nasdaq I will be greatly indebted to you! Suby
  15. MightyMouse, Where can one obtain data pertaining to contracts short the S&P and Long the S&P...?
  16. Curious to hear how you've come to this MightyMouse The relationship between the S&P500 and the VIX looks extremely tame right now but whats preventing this market from following off a cliff?
  17. I realize this is the TA section of the website; however, given that the TA section is the most visited area of Traders Lab and that the majority of traders here are undoubtly S&P traders (Directly or indirectly) I would like to start a discussion in regards to market sentiment on the S&P going into the final stretch of this year. Some of the greatest sources of wealth generation have been in one day market crashes (i.e. 1987, 2000, 2008, etc). On Thursday when speaker Beiner spoke the market dropped 8 points in a matter of 2 minutes. Nothing to wild; however, what was interesting to note about that 8 point drop was how fast and almost planned (algo execution) those 2 minutes were. I realize you should probably never hold a bias towards your market direction; however, the last time the S&P approached the 1450 area we immediately proceeded to drop throughout the day to 1420. There is clearly a ton of volatility in today's market, specifically around each time a major economic announcment is made (pertaining to the fiscal cliff). Where does everyone stand on the current state of the S&P. Do you feel we have room to run. Do you feel we are close to the roof and its only a matter of time until we dive off the cliff. I am interested to hear where everyone stands on this issue.
  18. Amazed to see the quality and length of everyone's reply. I guess this is something that is on everyone's mind from one point to another. In my original post I guess I should of tried to be a little bit more specific in regards to volatilities application towards helping one in predicting trend. In the tradition sense, yes volatility is useless to predict a stock/futures trend rather can only help a options trader. However... Volatility can and will help each and every trader in regards to regime switching (i.e. determining whether or not something is moving within mean reversion territory or trending or entering bull/bear market territory) I unfortunately do not have all the answers to this. I really do wish I could contribute more. I appreciate everyone's insight and feedback into this. Suby
  19. Often when people hear the word "Volatility" in trading they assimilate it with range or how wild something might swing. I want to start a discussion in regards to using Volatility in trend prediction (if this is even possible...). The focus of this discussion will be aimed at using Volatility towards Equities and Futures (ironically not options). So without further ado... Who uses Volatility in their day to day trading to help them navigate the murky waters of random movements amongst Equities and Futures Suby
  20. What in gods name happened after Obama opened his mouth today...?
  21. I was wondering who here use's time series analysis in their trading and if you could kind of provide some examples with its applications... Suby
  22. I was wondering if anyone here does Stat Arb/Pairs Trading in Excel using IB DDE. Not sure if its possible at the retail level but I would love to hear about your experiences on this Suby
