I'm not sure I'd agree -- there's tremendous psychological warfare underway with poker - agree that for most of us it's not in the pit where you see your enemy. Different than poker that way for sure. However, trying to judge, measure, analyze and take moves based upon analyzing the mass of people trading a given market is just as challenging. Your mind will do all kinds of horrible tricks on you when trading and I'm 100% sure it's the major reason for most peoples downfall when trading. Clearly it's different to be at a table facing off against your enemy and being able to somewhat look them in the eye but I think the challenge, stress and drain on the mind and psychology might even be potentially be greater with trading off the floor.

Yes, I have used these -- quite a few I have tried. I kinda knew better intellectually but had to prove it out myself. I can tell you I've never had success -- and certainly not even close to what is advertised. With Fap I actually found it worked ok for a while but seems like the brokers sniffed it out once they must have sold thousands of them and they basically "broke" the strategies effectiveness. I'd say in my experience they were the closest to actually working and they just way oversold it. Not sure about newer version. In general, there is a group of developers/marketers who keep cranking stuff out under different names - always with super slick websites - it's an arms race. I would suggest you instead look for trading strategies where you know the rules - the "why" it's taking the trade and ones that rely on at least some small portion of subjectivity and trading skill. Those are much more likely to have a chance of working for you. Then, use automation how it should be intended, to help you manage these type of trades - maybe moving stops or locking in profit, etc... Just don't expect your computer to turn into a cash machine no matter what the ads say

I don't think it's nearly as bad as you describe. This show is "ok" compared to the one they had with the forex expo. The exhibitors you won't learn all that much though sometimes it's nice to be able to chat -- I've talked to some folks at Ninja there before and Tradestation. I don't bother much with any signal people that spring up. However, I will agree that in recent years there has been a decline since so much has been replaced by the internet. It used to be you had to attend those shows for the seminars but now those are held all the time online which is much more convenient. And, it's a great excuse to go to Vegas!

PipHog (like the name!), Yes, I am trading off of the 1 hour chart for 4 of the 5 pairs - for the GBPUSD I actually use the 4 hour chart. The reason? It simply behaves more reliably off of the 4 hour for me than the 1 hour chart..... Good trading!

Wissam, Hello and welcome here. I'm not sure what timezone TL uses but I am in CST. I typically place my trades at about 8pm CST/9pm EST - that's when my set-ups are ready. Sometimes I get one between 4pm - 8pm CST (5pm - 9pm EST) -- I do my best to post these about that time after I place my trades though sometimes I'm a little late. Almost always though the trade hasn't entered yet even when I am. Most times anyway. Thanks.

It has always amazed me over the years of trading and observing how often markets reverse, pause, oscillate around these various key levels. Obviously there's a massive group think/psychology at work. Meaning hundreds/thousands (?) of other people trading the market have marked the same levels or close -- and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's why still to this day I'm paranoid about entering just ahead of big round numbers, or other key numbers in the markets I trade because still, despite all the thousands of trades running across they still respect them. Of course, they all eventually break - in seconds, in minutes, in days -- but there's definitely opportunity working around them. I'll look forward to seeing more from you.

Personally I think you'll come into this way more prepared than most. The fact that you understand odds, game theory, money management, etc... and probably regular losing hands -- along with your pot growing, drawing down, growing, et.c... means you are far beyond most who try their "hand" at trading. Wouldn't surprise me if it works the other way as well -- that there are successful traders who do quite well i poker....

My rule on FOMC days is I like the movement but it's not tradeable right at announcement time - and it's usually downright awful the hours leading up to it. So, I wait a minimum of 10 minutes after that announcement, sometimes up to 15 minutes and then I start to trade -- it usually moves great on multiple markets after that time and you actually can get standard fills. My rule on other important reports tends to be 5 minutes - that's usually more than enough time for things to settle down -- and I have a rule to NEVER trade right at the announcement or just before since you're no better than flipping a coin then.

Enochbenjamin, What I'm doing is trading daily (actually entering trade at night for me after work) and then literally doing nothing -- I place it and let it do what it has to do. I either get my profit target, stopped out or when I come back in the next evening I exit out if still open. I put in just a few minutes every 24 hours so it's super simple. For that reason I know I need a reasonable win percentage --- I try to get about 70% if I can -- that of course means there's are days where I might lose across the board, sometimes multiple days in a row but over a month I usually end well. Last month my EURUSD had +499 pips, GBPUSD +308 pips, USDJPY +137 pips but my EURJPY was -11 pips. That was a really good month though -- not all will be as good. November so far is up, but hasn't really kicked into gear yet. Yesterday for example was great, today I had some losses. Over the month though I think I'll be fine -- and it beats spending hours per day!

What I like about this approach is it's the set/forget mode -- I go to sleep and wake up and what happens, happens. Today's results: EURUSD +38 pips USDCHF +48 pips GBPUSD +77 pips USDJPY - no trade EURJPY - still open missed target by a bit a few pips - you could exit here or hold on and exit end of day at stop/target or end of day I'll post again tonight at about 9pm EST my next trade set-ups for Friday's session.
