For economic announcements I use seeking alpha dot coms market currents http://seekingalpha.com/news/market_currents?source=headtabs. I subscribe to the rss feed then filter it to include only the news I want. Also try out yahoo pipes to filter your other rss feeds http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/
