  1. Ninja & Tradestation. I'm asking about the popping/cricket sounds. Curious what they're based on.
  2. I'd like to make my own tape tweet. I really like tapetweet.com but I have several reasons for making my own: - they don't have it for the markets I trade - I want something visual too - I'd like to see it historically if possible I'm curious how they're doing it. I've been trying to figure it out but not having much luck. If anyone has any ideas please share.
  3. Maybe your posts are over our heads? Could you try breaking it down a bit and starting with simpler subtopics? I'm very interested in this but feel a bit out of it cause I don't understand a lot of it.
  4. This discussion on ES vs. YM and other markets is really interesting and I never thought of it from this point of view. I tried YM one day and I put my stop a few ticks below a swing low and it got taken out 3 times that day. I looked at ES and every time the swing L was not taken out. there was equal L but not LL. So I thought YM was a bit looser and my stops were safer with ES and I've been trading ES since. I'll take another look at YM outside market hours with a new point of view.
  5. I would not accuse him of cheating, I'm very glad he's shared his ideas & posts. I'm just curious if he got any spikes in that time leading up to the top because I did and I'm trying to figure out a way to make it more accurate. I also found a few times that the intensity appeared to be from stop orders - for example stop loss for short sellers and buy stops for breakout traders. I noticed this because I saw spikes when I was stopped out on Friday. Here's two charts from Friday along with my comments. I had a problem with my DOM and my second target was closed with the first one so if it looks like I took a quick profit that's why.. I'd love to have some comments on these charts.
  6. Urma, I'm not sure if you saw my request, but regarding this post could you please post your chart for the previous 15 minutes? Thanks.
  7. It's available every 15 minutes. But I can't figure out exactly who is each of the trader categories to make it useful. Have you read his other threads? The reason he uses intensity is precisely for the reason you describe, smart traders split up their orders. When one sees a series of orders in a very short timeframe (seconds for me, but milliseconds for him) then you can assume they come from the same trader or a similar group of traders. In his post he said a 2 lot trader never trades 100 lots. In your reply you're saying a 100 lot trader can split his order into 50 2 lots. But he's still a 100 lot trader. What urma is saying is if we see a 100 lot order we know it's not a small retail trader so it's professional. From what I understand, if it's 100 lots on a trade it's more likely to be arb because a smart spec would have split his orders to hide them. I hope that clears up some points. If I misunderstood anything please let me know.
  8. I have my version available on my blog for Ninja & Multicharts. I'm sure someone can port it to SierraChart. I'm hoping to get some collaboration from other developers. Mine isn't done the same way as Urma's however I do get similar signals. My problem is I get too many signals. Pace of Tape Indicator Trade With The Flow
  9. So far my observation is that the turning point is due more to exhaustion than it is traders fading the move. For a short, I see exhaustion by sellers and then price reverses. This seems to be more reliable than looking for an increase in intensity by longs. But I'm still investigating this.
  10. Can you explain this further? Are you saying they will put a limit order on the bid and let the offer come to them?
  11. Thanks. I would like to see your spikes for 6:45 to 7:07 your time.
  12. and a half hour later another spike which sent prices up.
  13. Urma, can you post your chart for the time around 10 minutes earlier? I got several spikes on my chart and I'm curious if you have the same. Your 7:07 is my 16:07.
  14. That's $8.65 per transaction. If a transaction is a single contract then that's not right. IB is $2/trade. Mirus $2.20.
  15. See: http://www.traderslaboratory.com/forums/f46/pace-tape-measure-trade-intensity-detect-7917.html#post96702 1st - check if your software has more than 1 second precision 2nd - use the time instead of time_s
  16. Barry of Emini watch has an indicator that does something similar. It's called "Better Volume", it's free with the source code. it looks for a high volume bar with a small range. The small range means the volume couldn't move the price and it's likely to reverse.
  17. The workspace will show you how it works but here's the text: 20060720153912EasyLanguage Tic Toc Demo.zip
  18. The multicharts version should be in easylanguage and should work, with the exception of the time_s which may not work. Make sure OEC supports timestamps finer grained than 1 minute (like tradestation) or it will be less accurate.
  19. Well no updates in a month. I'm curious if the OP is still at it and how he's doing. I've never played poker but it sounds like fun.
  20. I don't need answers, just some hints. I've spent a year investigating about volume, prototyping, etc. so I find it fascinating. The question is does the pro split into 1-2 lots or 10-20? That makes a difference. This low yesterday is a good example. My paintbar colors blue & magenta for above avg trade size and yellow for below average. Here's what the bottom looked like: Up until now I had thought that small trade size = amateurs. I often see yellow bars at the high or low of a move. I thought it was amateurs caught on the wrong side. But now I think it could also be the smart traders who split their orders into small lots. Often the yellow bar will come after the low, that could be the smart traders buying without driving price up and without showing a large order on the book. This idea of detecting splitting has opened up a whole new set of doors for me. Here is an example of my "pace of tape" indicator which measures the intensity of ticks but doesn't (yet) use volume. Anyone interested can find a short video about it and download it for Ninjatrader & Multicharts from my blog. It's not comparable to urma's but it has been a great learning experience for me.
  21. You'll find it here: http://tinyurl.com/2dpfzwv I'm currently reading up on it. I had no idea this was available. Thanks zdo!
  22. Hi Urma, I've been following your threads with great curiosity. I've done a lot of research into volume and written several indicators to help me analyze volume and use it in my trading. I have a trade intensity indicator but it's no where near as sophisticated as yours. I'm really curious how you classify volume as "commercial". Currently I do this by looking at above average trade size. From reading your posts, if I understand correctly, a large trade size isn't the smart money you're tracking. If you could elaborate on how you classify commercial activity that would be very helpful. Thanks
  23. I don't believe it will work in TS, or at least I don't believe it will be accurate, because TS only has 1 second resolution on the bars. Thanks for the MC binary file.
  24. Here is the source for multicharts done by Richard. I don't have multicharts so if someone can make an indicator out of it and upload it that would be great. PaceOfTape MC Source.txt
  25. I'd like to share something I've been working on. I'm using trade intensity to detect buying/selling exhaustion which often leads to reversals. The reversal can be a pause, a small pullback, or a full reversal. So this isn't something one can use mechanically but rather as an input into a discretionary trading method. I measure trade intensity by the amount of trades occuring in a given time. This is equivalent to watching the time & sales for periods when the trades start scrolling really fast. I find that with this indicator I no longer have to watch time & sales. I'd like to get some feedback on this idea and improve it. So far I have it available for Ninjatrader & Multicharts and you can look at the source code and program it for other platforms. If you do please send me a copy so that I can make it available on my blog and make it available to everyone else. I'm attaching a chart showing a bit of how I use it. I have also created a blog page and a video which explains it in more detail. http://www.tradewiththeflow.com/201...tape-indicator/ Thanks for looking, I hope you find it useful. And good trading to everyone! PaceOfTape NT65 v1.0.4.zip
