Protective Stops in ES

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced their protective stop being blown through during the RTH session on ES.

If your stop is entered well ahead of price movement, has price blown through your stop leaving you still in the market and several points on the wrong side of the price action.

The only way I csan imagine this happening is that if its a Stop LIMIT and there are not enough lots on affer at your LIMIT. Regular Stop orders MUST be filled at the market when the Stop is elected.

As stated, if you use a STOP LIMIT, then it's very possible to get blown by.

If you use a STOP MARKET, that will never happen. Your order WILL be executed; however it is a market order so you could face some slippage. On the ES, it will be minimal during most conditions.

Steps to trading on your platform:

1) Learn what order types exist and how to use them and how they operate

2) Practice

3) Practice

4) Practice

See what order types your broker supports and where those orders are held (server side or locally on your computer). Then practice and play on the demo. I'd suggest Open ECry.

Good suggestion BF I agree. Demo is a reasonable $25.00 a month and that gets you the full platform, futures, FX, and recently options were added, soon equities. It is a live demo platform so it can be used for backup data. I use it for backup.
