looks like overnight limits are maximum 5%...

I thought circuit breakers only came into play after 10% but that's during the day

It's turning into an ugly open for the stocks... but not just the stock markets.

If you look at a lot of the currencies, and in particular the less-common currencies and emerging market currencies, you'll see a HUGE ramp up in volatility during the last 3 days. Incredible moves today in GJ. Too bad there wasn't any historic data to use. But one good thing about these moves is that it's showing us where the hourly S/R lines exist. That's good. It should make it more tradeable when it starts going back up.

We are all doing real time analysis & trading in the chat room these days...

That's too bad. It's a pain in the neck to read those logs.

Hey, did Wasp ever show up at your doorstep, Firewalker? I was half-expecting (well, actually not really expecting, but it would have been cool nonetheless) a visit this December while he was on holidays. But then, the worlds a might big place, and there are a ton more attractive things to see out there than my ugly face. I hope he's having a good holiday.

Somebody actually does that? :)

We're ready to go by 0730 your time, so unless you have a long commute, why not come in for a half hour or so? It's often pretty much over within the first ninety minutes anyway.

I am about mate and never made it to the US at all in the end. After a brief trip o/s I have had some family issues to sort out which are still dragging and so you'll get your visit later this year instead!

Not visited FW either... There really ARE better things in the world to see!!!!!!

Hope you had a good Christmas and new year and your trading is coming along nicely?

I'm working the Asian and European currency sessions, so I'm up all night and in bed by 5 am... and wake up in time to catch the last two hours of the US session. Just a wee bit too early and way too late to contribute.

As always, there's room to improve the trading. Theres winners and losers. Just have to stay ahead of the game. Took a little over 220 pips yesterday on a well-behaved cable trade. Planted my stop a little too close and so I've missed the rest of this ride down. But profit is profit.

Had a good Christmas. We've seen more snow this year than since I was a teenager AGES ago. Weird, but fun.

I hope you're able to resolve your family issues. They can really throw things off kilter.

What do you mean, you're usually done by Monday? You trade Sunday and you're done on Monday? Don't mean to pry, but those are pretty narrow hours.

Pretty narrow requirements these days! 200 pips and I am done for the week and more than happy!

So could we call that "semi-retirement" or are you just taking entries that meet a narrow criteria?

Good for you. I have always found it ironic that for may of us freedom is one of the main things that attract us to trading, we then end up slaves to the screen.

The former, although not quite semi-retirment, just minimum exposure!

I'd call it lazy! But after 10 years (or more?) in the business, who can blaim him :)

or 'blame' me even! ;)

My sentiments exactly!

    • Date: 24th April 2024. Market News – Stock markets strengthen as tech rally widens. Economic Indicators & Central Banks:   The bulls are back in town for now. Wall Street climbed, led by tech and especially the Magnificent 7 — all cohorts rallied, even Tesla which broke a 7-session losing streak even as its earnings news was awaited. US: The weaker than expected PMI data from S&P Global was the excuse needed to underpin a short covering rally in Treasuries after the big selloff in April. Record US Auction boosted demand! A well bid 2-year sale also added to the gains in Treasuries, while signs of future price pressures saw the long end underperform. Demand petered out into the finish, however, especially with the surge on Wall Street, and yields edged off their lows. Australia: The hot inflation print pointed to sticky local price pressures and reinforced the case for the RBA to hold rates at a 12-year high. The CPI rose to 3.6% y/y VS 3.5% estimate, while core CPI rose 4%, also higher than forecast and well above the RBA’s 2-3% target. Japan: Strong warning for intervention by officials. The BoJ is widely expected on Friday to leave policy settings & bond purchase amounts unchanged. NEW YORK (AP) — The Biden administration has finalized a new rule set to make millions more salaried workers eligible for overtime pay in the US. Financial Markets Performance:   The USDIndex slumped, falling to 105.39 largely on profit taking and as haven demand faded. USDJPY flirts with 155 after FM Suzuki issued the strongest warning to date on the chance of intervention, saying last week’s meeting with US and South Korean counterparts had laid the groundwork for Tokyo to act against excessive Yen moves. AUDUSD up for a 3rd day in a row, to 0.6528 amid a broadly weaker USD but also a strong Aussie post a hot inflation print. USOIL steady at $83 ahead of sanctions against Iran and shrinking US Inventories. Gold closed slightly lower at $2332, but off yesterday’s $2289 nadir. Market Trends:   The NASDAQ increased 1.59%, with the S&P500 up 1.20%, while the Dow rallied 0.69%. Dissipating geopolitical risks also supported. EU stock futures are posting gains, after a largely stronger close across Asia. Nikkei and Hang Seng gained more than 2% amid a strengthening tech rally. Australian shares underperformed. Tesla Inc. (+13.33% after hours) spiked after its statement for the launch of more affordable vehicles despite a sales miss. The stock halted a 7-day plunge, climbing alongside other members of the group. Microsoft Corp., Meta Platforms Inc. and Alphabet Inc. are also due to report earnings this week. Profits for the “Magnificent Seven” group — which also includes Apple Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Nvidia Corp. — are forecast to rise about 40% in the Q1 a year ago, according to Bloomberg Intelligence data.
