How important is physical conditioning to you?

Creatine definitely works. Just go with a reputable company...I would say if there is one legal non hormonal supplement that works, it is creatine. No questions.

 

Make sure to drink a bunch of water with it though.

I tried it once and yea I definately lifted more on it and had increased muscle volume but I stopped and haven't touched it for a year. I don't think it's necessary at all. After having a good calorie intake with plenty of carbs i had all the energy I needed to lift heavy. Looking back creatine seemed more like a placebo. Also I don't like the idea of putting synthetic stuff into my body. I try to limit the amount of artificial stuff that goes into my body.

 

Also ketosis diets I'm wary of cause all that meat that you eat can't be good for your colon. Colon cancer is a worry with all that meat slowly rotting inside my bowels.

Yeah I agree with you, but keep in mind that your body synthesizes its own creatine. It's approximated to be about 2g a day, but of course it varies. But hey if your body already makes it, maybe its not the best idea to add more, you know?

 

 

 

Yeah colon cancer is some scary stuff man.

A mate of mine had an uncle who was as healthy as an ox. He was a big meat eater and at the age of 45 developed colon cancer. He lasted a year. Being big and beefy looks great but its better to get that way slowly and cleanly instead of putting things in your body that shouldn't be there! My health is more important than anything.

 

Yea we synthesise around 2g of creatine a day from the foods we eat. Mainly meats. If your adding in 10g a day then you really are flooding your body with it. If you decide to take creatine then stick with monohydrate because it's been around longer and more tests have been done on it. Make sure you drink plenty of water cause creatine will make you bloat if you don't. Some people have reported increased acne with creatine but that varies I guess.

Physical conditioning is critical. Studies have shown that one of the best ways to train your brain is to train your body. Oxygen uptake and blood flow increase to the brain when you are actively engaged in exercise. It doesn't have to be hard core, but it should be a regular part of your life. Just walking everyday for thirty minutes helps.

 

So many traders are just plain out of shape physically. After all, this is a sedentary profession with many hours of sitting and much intense focus. Getting away from the screens, getting into the outdoors or the gym is a welcome respite from this.

 

Many of you know that I am a competitive athlete, and have been for 25 years. I am not as young as I used to be ( who is?) but I am grateful that I can get out there and compete with the best of them. Now, it is not about winning gold or silver. It is about doing it and the wonderful feelings I have in body and mind when I complete a competition.

 

If any of you has questions about how much or what kind of exercise might be helpful for you, please do not hesitate to write to me.

 

Also, part of physical wellness is proper diet and that is another area in which many of us need some assistance.

 

Trading is a marathon, not a sprint. Preserving capital is more than just financial capital--it is mental, emotional and physical.

 

It takes a lean, strong horse for a long race.

Also something to keep in mind....

 

unless you are an elite level athlete or training for a specific event (ie a fight) then trust me, any physical activity will help. You would be shocked at how the body will adapt to anything, whether the good old 4x8 scheme or anything really. Even walking and jogging will turn your physique into something fairly impressive. Some will be luckier than others in the genetics aspect, meaning that their even looking at weights seem to grow muscle...but others may have to work a little harder....

 

All in all though, don't worry about making it into a science unless you are elite level. The main thing you should focus on is

 

a) doing physical activity in the first place

b) doing physical activity in the first place

c) doing physical activity in the first place

d) keeping a healthy variety for your sanity and motivation's sake.

 

You will be amazed at your progress by keeping it simple- just like trading.

 

You will know if/when it is time to get complicated. I am no genius, but I was in charge of physical training for my division and later, the whole Operations dept while active duty. Everyone always scored in the top ranks on my watch.

Intense exerce is required if your going to train your body to grow and develop an aesthtic musculature (Mike Mentzer is a genius) but you have to remember not to go too hard on yourself. World Strongman (2nd strongest human alive) Jesse Marunde just passed away recently from a heart attack while he was training at the young age of 27.

Mike Mentzer's brother died young too. To be a truly ripped requires major effort...but my point was that the average person would be amazed at what the body will look like if you just do some physical activity and strip some fat off....

 

Ever looked at an anatomy chart? Everyone has those same muscles....fat covers them up. Everyone has a six pack....whether or not it is covered up is another story.

What with all these "professional wrestlers" dying young - like under 50 and such. Call me crazy, but there's way too many of these 'rasslers kicking the bucket too soon.

It is due in part to being high mileage...

 

however, I believe it is mainly the painkillers and other drugs (NOT STEROIDS) that cause this...

 

I believe it mainly their lifestyle, the same way that it isn't rock music that kills these young musicians, it is the partying and drugs....

 

 

PT WILL NEVER KILL YOU. YOU ALWAYS PASS OUT FIRST.

Physical training can kill you if you have an anurism trying to lift too hard. You can get a hernia which can kill you if left untreaded. I can't remember what the medical term is when you blow your intestines out of your poop chute but that can happen as well if you try really really damn hard to lift something you shouldnt lift.

 

I do agree though it's not steroids that kill them its other drugs like insulin or other types of drugs that effect metabolism/body temperature/blood pressure to help increase oxygen intake, carbohydrate metabolism etc...

yes, insulin shock can kill you in a matter of minutes. You should read about DNP if you haven't already to really see some crazy stuff in bodybuilding! lol

While we're still on the whole bodybuilding/drugs thing who's your prediction for Mr. O this year? I reckon Jay will win again but Ronnie is in amazing shape at the moment.

 

Top 3 will be (in no particular order) Victor Martinez, Ronnie, Jay.

 

Heath will win one day when his older. But I'd personally like to see someone like Dexter Jackson or Dareem Charles win cause they have the most aesthetic look like back in the good old days of the 60's and 70's unlike some of the freaks out now.

I really haven't followed that in quite some time...Ronnie is and always has been a freak of nature.....Being a Trader, my bets on him, since he has the highest odds I guess. lol

 

I wish they had more people like Sergio Olivia, Lee Haney, Frank Zane and Larry Scott, or even the great Sandow....Now THAT is bodybuilding.

 

I admit, I work out almost strictly for efficiency and GPP these days...though I do from time to time do some BB phases...since I live on the beach and all. LOL

NIck, do you plan on competing? I would assume trading would take away too much of your time and energy to fight.

Nah not planning on competing any time soon. I recently dislocated my knee and its not healing up as well as I'd hoped so that'll put me out of commission for a long time till its ready for anything apart from controlled movements at the gym.

Training is very important at managing stress for me. After 2 years of inactivity i recently picked up training again. Endurance training more suits my taste than strength. I row for about 1 hour every second day, good cardio workout , wide range of motions and a lot of muscles get a bit of exercise.

 

Certainly that's not a good way to put on a lot of muscles but it builds some core strength. Throwing some abs exercises into the mix helps as well. Fortunately i got the right genes, so looking athletic isn't a big deal.

 

Maybe i should check out meditation, but it's difficult for me not to be active all the time.

I want to get back into running. My goal is to wake up around 5:30 am and run a little bit, get home and shower then start trading. Of course I'm used to going to bed at 5:30 am rather than waking up then.. but we'll see.

 

Does anyone recommend any type of shoes for this? I know I sell shoes, but they are high heels :)
