I have a serious question. It’s a question I’m grateful that many lab partners will have many good answers.  :) -
What are the results when the fed transitions from being the ‘buyer of last resort’ of bonds to being the ‘only buyer’ of bonds?

thx

Thank you so much for all the enlightened answers to my question yesterday.  😲

This morning we have poverty enhancing lockdowns (and now curfews), dead truth, planned/sponsored/funded riots, looted stores, cities burning ... billions more new fake dollars, fractious liquidity,  ....   .....  ........  blah blah blah  - so Buy the Nasdaq ! Buy the faang !  ie   Info tech is NOT vulnerable !

... except

Here are couple of questions - What happens when amazon can’t deliver?  When their trucks  and the other shipping providers don’t make it more than a couple stops after leaving the distribution centers before being looted?  And for google apple and fakebook, what happens when ‘they’ riot at the base of cell towers and at cable distribution hubs?

Hyperinflation is a monetary phenomenon and demand is not as significant factor in pushing up prices. Prices go up because the value of the fiat paper money is falling as more and more is created.

Example:  In Zimbabwe stores didn't even have goods on the shelves, people were hungry,  water and  electricity was scarce, no public transportation, gas was sold on the black market and large quantities of paper money confiscated...and yet the Stock market kept soaring... As the hyperinflation started to gain traction, there was a six week period in which the currency tumbled 10-fold. That’s a huge drop. During that time the stock market rose 500-fold. So corrected for inflation, the stock market rose 50-fold measured in US dollars. Six weeks later, the Zimbabwe currency had eroded another 100-fold and the Zimbabwe stock market went to zero. It fell 99.9% and then it stopped trading. In other words, ONLY those invested in PHYSICAL Gold and Silver were safe...the others lost it ALL!

Thank god Nothing and I mean NOTHING like that could ever happen in the developed nations because we are very smart and we don’t have any corruption or moral hazards

...

see https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2  for how to smartly drag out destruction and collapse

... still, ultimately ...

"Good money drives out the bad."  So we really just have the one little issue to deal with - for us  no good money currently exists on this planet to drive out the bad ...

...maybe we should just trust them to build us a new eCurrency on their blockchain. .. I'm just sayin'

MOAI nflation in slow motion ie more Thank god Nothing and I mean NOTHING like Zimbabwe could ever happen in the developed nations because we are very smart and we don’t have any corruption or moral hazards...  We must understand that the zimbobs had no real need to nflate their money supply, while we do have a ‘real’ crisis that needs more money - insert  :sar chasm smilie for the many context deficits on board: ... We must understand that each increment of new fake money for the not very bright zimbobs (and also the inexperienced 'kingdumbs, viemers, venuzwalens, argents, etc etc')  was meant to be the last ... meanwhile - while  we are assured these measures are only temporary - we are provided no delusions contraindicating that we may have to go much much mush further ... but that we are still going to be THE exception...

like - Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell recently did an interview with Princeton economist Alan Blinder. Powell admitted that the central bank had “crossed a lot of red lines,” but insisted he was comfortable with the actions, given “this is that situation in which you do that, and you figure it out afterward.” (reassured yet?).  Binder then asked Powell if there is any limit to how much the Fed’s balance sheet can grow and Powell said he wasn’t concerned and the balance sheet has a long way to go.

All ‘powell’ is doing is inflation. He is inflating the money supply. That is the definition of inflation. Expand the money supply. But ‘powell’ is not concerned. He’s a one indicator trader.  His indicator’s name is Falling Prices. ... and falling prices indicates to ‘powell’ that things are under the control of ‘normal’ economic cycles instead of under ‘powell’ control.  However it should be noted,  if ‘powell’ really believes there is no limit to the size of the balance sheet that means there is no limit to the depths to which the 'dollar' and all the other fake currs around the world can plunge.  In a podcast, Peter Schiff called it the Nancy Pelosi version of monetary policy. “We need to print the money to see where it goes.”

My momentary questions are 1 what % of denizens believe this is going to work? and 2 what would it take for them (you) to change these beliefs / this trust... ???

At this point please please please  DO NOT  look at a graph of the USD purchasing power for the last 110 years.

must stop now to BmoreofTFD :wink wink?:

‘Economy’ just sayin’

The employment ‘numbers’ just indicate that many of the businesses than were not ‘authorized’  to reopen and resume work did reopen -  ‘illegally’  , against official’s orders, in the face of lockdown policies.  Note in states that are still in ‘lockdown’, the employment numbers are not quite as ‘great’ .  Regardless, these numbers do not mean the economy is out of the woods.  The same fragilities and frailties that were developed before the ‘crisis’ are now elevated, not reduced.  Someone said “We should worry about turning into Japan, not Zimbabwe.”  Hellow - Japan IS Zimbabwe... plodding instead of jerking.

“That which has failed is unsustainable, no matter how many trillions the Federal Reserve tosses against the tides of history. The current travesty of a mockery of a sham system will fragment no matter how desperate the looters, parasites and predators are to maintain their swag.” C H Smith   “Merkel's coalition overcame ideological differences and passed a €130BN stimulus for the foundering German economy”. Shows you have to run it hard even in a race to the bottom...

govt%20spending%205.12_0.jpg?itok=SfVOfu

Quote

To see why “stimulus” truly depresses, consult the basics. The creation of public money and public debt is not the creation of wealth; it is not food, clothing, shelter, energy or the like. Even privately generated money and debt, which reflect the needs of trade and lengthy production chains, represent, facilitate and circulate wealth but are not themselves wealth. Meanwhile, the savings borrowed by governments are unavailable to productive enterprises, and when a government creates fiat money beyond what money holders demand, the money loses purchasing power, which boosts the cost of living. These are not roads to prosperity.

A “regime of irredeemable currency is inherently dishonest.”

Social ( cops murders protests etc...) just sayin’ and questioning the fucking narratives !!!!

Why demonstrate at all?  Everyone is in agreement!  NO ONE wants police murdering people - black or white.  You’d never hear MSM paint it like this but even the “extreme white supremacists” who are quite sure their lives matter too don’t want police murdering people... cause they know if they act out their white neck intolerant criminal asses are even more likely than an intolerant black criminal to be ‘murdered’ by the police .  Personally, while I sympathize,  I would buy into the BLM concept much more if there were any indications on the concrete plantation that black babies' lives actually mattered to all those protesters... just sayin'

https://www.peakprosperity.com/ideas-for-righteous-revolution/

And while we’re at it, just a week ago small business owners protesting the lockdown were spit on as engaging the most dangerous activity possible... now the same officials who prohibited those protests are marching arm in arm with the murder protesters... their double standards are much better than most double standards... I'll give them that.

...and btw, all that protesting and rioting and looting will not save one single life...

But for all the crime victims and families who will be harmed, it would be interesting to see a city sample dissolving the police force and instituting a 'new public safety' agency - where, of course, only dyed in the wool social justice warriors would be ever hired as 'cops' ,,, smells like china where a cop has to have a shining record with the ccp to be hired into that completely just and un-corrupted police force...

anyways

...a welfare state ultimately reverts to a slavery state.  ... is that what ‘we’ really want as we continue to protest for more welfare state???  Just sayin’

As we move toward a world where certain ideas are forbidden and only officially approved questions can be asked, where governments and corporations have a monopoly on the truth and everything else is a conspiracy theory, only one thing really matters. The evidence.

Hofstadter believed that paranoid style theorist’s constant citation of evidence was merely an attempt to “protect cherished convictions.” This could be true, but the only way to find out is to look at that evidence. The label of the conspiracy theorist has been deliberately created in order to convince you not to look at evidence. [edits mine]

Regardless of whether or not you think someone’s opinion is a conspiracy theory, you owe it to yourself and your children to consider the evidence they cite. Perhaps you will reject it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

But to reject it, without knowing what it is, really is crazy. Your only other option is to unquestioningly accept whatever you are told by the government, globalist think tanks, multinational corporations and their mainstream media partners.

If you choose to believe that everyone who claims to have identified the malfeasance of officials, the crimes of government or the corruption of powerful global institutions, are all conspiracy theorists, then you have accepted that the establishment is beyond reproach.

If you also agree the same established hierarchy can not only determine what you can or cannot know, but can also set all the policies and legislation which dictates your behavior and defines the limits of your freedom, you have elected to be a slave...

This black lives matter crap is starting to look more and more like some of the shit that went down in the  french revolution ... which ultimately didn’t turn out to be much good for ANYONE or any group btw... Anyways, under the guise of fighting another invisible and extremely overestimated 'virus' called ‘systemic racism’ it looks like another round in history of  mob rule dragging any sucker they can find out to apologize, prostrate... looks like demands for rule of man / rule of mob instead of rule of law.  BLM doods here’s a hint - BLM is run and funded by white ‘lives’ and you are nothing more than a useful tool  idiot to them.

I’m speaking from experience. ... you will not find what you’re really looking for at the extremes.   If you really want to resolve this instead of just being a tool go forgive ALL the injustices done to you by man and nature and get on with your life.  ...  forgiving here  does not mean submission, it does not mean you no longer will hold perpetrators accountable.   What forgiving here means is you simply cancel/drop all your internal plans for revenge and move on...

Markets  ... just sayin’

long the stock market = long big business = long fascism

long big business - as in “...because the market doesn’t represent the economy; it represents the future of big business.” Jim Cramer

long fascism - as in the shining 'big business' stocks of the current ‘market’ were literally seeded and are now backstopped with new, 1st money every night by the system's bank.

Defining fascism:  fascism is a system centrally controlled, but private ownership of enterprises is still allowed.  That’s it. ie  If you conflate fascism with cruelty in the body politic during fascist regimes, you’re just as off as you are if you conflate antifa with anarchs, or inflation with rising prices, or  ...

Any system centrally controlled is far left of center... not quite as far left as communism of course, but still way out there left ... out there far enough left to be an elite globalist’s wet dream... especially when they can suddenly own the private owners and go on past even full commie when their time is right...

But like all the other ‘isms’, fascism ultimately doesn’t scale up well at all for everyone else... just sayin’

Social ... just sayin’

BLM dotdvl is aligned with, serving, doing the useful disposable idiot engineered race war dirty work for a group whose unspoken slogan is “No Lives Matter”... that’s a problem.

But on the ground there’s another problem with the movement.  “Black Lives Matter” as a slogan is simply not going to work dumbasses.  Here’s why.  EVERYONE, whatever skin pig, is silently generating a reaction under their breath.  That reaction tweetys “All Lives Matter”.  The only ones who are going to really buy your mantra are those who already shame based and are out there compensate screaming with you.  You’re losing everyone else... yes you’re even losing the stupid CEO’s who are falling all over themselves to virtue signal you off with their stock holders’ money...

If your purpose is to drive a wedge and as a consequence matter less and less to the many, then the mantra “Black Lives Matter” is working.  If your purpose is to convince more people that you feel black lives need to matter more than they currently appear to matter, it ain’t working.   Stop and fix your signs to something like “Black Lives Need To  Matter More” and stop screaming or implying “racist” when someone points out the wedging slogan and reveals the “All Lives Matter” reaction and you will get more traction...

Also, your symbol of police killing black men for ‘black lives don’t matter’ is weak.  Statistically when police arrest criminals there are sometimes going to be altercations and occasionally criminals are going to be injured or killed and occasionally police are going to be injured or killed.  And if you or Colin Kareernikt actually think you’re going to truly convince the many that Chauvin even slightly begins to represent all cops, your BLM message is turning to crap.   Just because social media helps censor the stats for propaganda purposes don’t make it so.  And , btw, why should we really  align with this current weak symbol when there is evidence that those two had pre-existing non police, probably criminal, issues ... that for sure we don’t have the whole story on this one?

Can you imagine if you had put all that rioting mob energy into forcing  your state and city council to pass laws with teeth allowing any public worker who’s not appropriate for the job to be released - yes cops, teachers, bureaucrats, court officials - all public employees.  It should not cost the taxpayers an average of $500,000 to get rid of someone who’s not correctly doing what they were hired for.  Then way fewer ‘chauvins’ would not be on the job.  Put your energy into convincing teachers’ unions to help get rid of underperformers instead of protecting them and see what happens to your culture.

Can you imagine what might happen if Colin rented a place in South Chicago where black lives apparently don't matter at all and went there just 10 weeks out of the year to help stop black on black killings?  It would take him courage and hard work to convince that cohort that ‘black lives matter’.  He might get plugged himself.  But I bet all of a sudden he wouldn’t have hardly any problems getting the ‘Drews’ of the world to ‘take a knee’ with him - authentically.      I’m just sayin’

Hencefore, inner city violence - ie death by south Chicago, etc - is on BLM.  Creeping no more, that ‘ism’ can now flower and take full responsibility for fixing all the black on black crime in their cities including all the  murders blacks commit on blacks.

Paraphrasing PB  ~’ Standing up for racial equality under the BLM banner may have earlier been an excusable error, but not anymore. ... you often hear this – . it’s not the organization but the “movement”.   Black Lives Matter is also just a phrase in the movement for racial justice, they say.  But that’s precisely the problem, and it’s BLM’s secret sauce for stoking violence and pursuing its revolution. The phrase is melded with the organization and its violent agenda. You’re for racial justice, aren’t you? Sending a check to BLM or putting up a sign proves it. Just don’t dare question either the movement or the organization. The severity of the consequences of questioning either one ensures that there’s no place for nuance so, whether intentional or not, the BLM phrase will continue to be conflated with the BLM organization....The end result is disastrous.’~  The oppressed minorities that previously could not recognize opportunity and freedom if it kicked them in the face or race or whatever will now get a chance to see what real tyranny and oppression looks like.

And as for BLM’s 'corporate' (aka fascist) contributors, they’d be wise to remember Vladimir Lenin’s words: “The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.~'

...

The minority ‘victims' aren’t the only useful idiots to be oppressed...

"The authors of a study which found no racial bias in police shootings asked for the study to be retracted.  The main findings were:

“1) As the proportion of Black or Hispanic officers in a [fatal officer-involved shootings] increases, a person shot is more likely to be Black or Hispanic than White, a disparity explained by county demographics; 2) race-specific county-level violent crime strongly predicts the race of the civilian shot…”

But the authors don’t want the study to be retracted because their findings were wrong. The data is sound.

Rather, the authors of the study now feel that it is being used improperly in the debate about police killings. They don’t like that people are using their study to discredit the Black Lives Matter narrative."

Now little Steve Hsu can't 'breathe' correctly... if at all

Snippets -

“At the end of May there was a significant breakthrough in understanding of COVID antibodies which was not widely reported: a Swiss study from Zurich led by Professor Onur Boyman74 demonstrated that a large proportion of the population had a natural immunity through existing antibodies on the mucous membrane (IgA) or cellular immunity (T cells), likely to have been acquired through previous exposure to coronaviruses such as influenza or the common cold ...

The study found that that the presence of (IgG and IgM) antibodies generated on infection which tests had previously focused on, were NOT in fact required to defeat the virus and that existing (IgA and T cell) antibodies that gave a natural immunity. Moreover, the population with this natural immunity was demonstrated to be five times greater than those with the IgG and IgM antibodies on which tests had hitherto focused. If this could be substantiated, then the population already exposed to COVID would also be five times greater than previously assumed76. In other words, if a population sample showed 10% had IgG and IgM antibodies (which might be subject to decay) then it was likely that at least half of the population had already been exposed to COVID.

It followed that antibody studies that measured only IgG and IgM that were now predicting population-based mortality risk of 0.1% to 0.5%77 (lower than the 1% in the elderly population aboard the Diamond Princess) could be even further reduced by a factor of five to 0.02% to 0.1% and the level of symptomatic exposure from 20% to below 5% (consistent with the flu season ironically predicted by Fauci in March). Not only would this mean a further similar reduction in the estimated true mortality rate 78 but it meant that there were far fewer people in the population who had never had exposure to the virus ...“  btw, that little tidbit of  ‘science’ didn’t go just "widely" unreported... it is actively suppressed by msm , social media, and search engines

The material on the Levitt’s “Gompertz curve” and the ‘second wave’ is also salient...

(PS and fwiw, there is no such thing as herd immunity)

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.” ― Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” ― George Orwell, 1984

Huxley and Orwell were contemporaries. Huxley’s dystopian masterpiece was published in 1932 at the outset of the rise of totalitarianism, while Orwell’s was published in 1949 after 65 million people perished in a World War and Stalin had already murdered tens of millions of his own citizens. Those were dark times. They also coincided with Edward Bernays 1928 publication of Propaganda, in which he revealed the existence of an invisible government who used propaganda to manipulate the minds of the public to insure those controlling the levers of power were able to engineer their desired outcomes.

Debate has raged over the decades whether Huxley’s or Orwell’s dystopian vision of the future would be more accurate. Both visions required the successful use of propaganda by those in power to achieve their agendas. Huxley wrote a letter to Orwell after reading 1984 in 1949, shortly before Orwell’s death. His conclusion was as follows:

“Within the next generation I believe that the world’s rulers will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience. In other words, I feel that the nightmare of Nineteen Eighty-Four is destined to modulate into the nightmare o f a world having more resemblance to that which I imagined in Brave New World. The change will be brought about as a result of a felt need for increased efficiency. Meanwhile, of course, there may be a large-scale biological and atomic war—in which case we shall have nightmares of other and scarcely  imaginable kinds.”

Aldous Huxley to George Orwell: My Hellish Vision of the Future is ...

I would assess Huxley’s vision was more accurate in the West, but Orwell’s was more accurate in regards to Russia, China, and numerous dictatorships in South America and Africa. The key word is “was”. Since 9/11, the United States has unequivocally moved in the direction of Orwell’s 1984 vision. We are now experiencing a dystopian amalgamation of the worst of both novels. Virtually every conspiracy theory ridiculed by the corporate controlled media pundits, captured academics, and government apparatchiks over the last few decades have proven to be accurate and true.

King Canute insisted that his throne be taken to the edge of the ocean where he thereupon commanded the tide not to rise. But rise it did, lapping his feet and beginning to swallow the chair. The courtiers rushed him back. The King thereby proclaimed the following: “Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws.”

...

Now, that’s some political humility right there. As we all await, day after day, and perhaps in vain, for governors and public health officials to issue apologies for their vicious and destructive lockdowns that have done nothing to control the virus tide, King Canute’s example is an inspiration.

That said, later historians demonstrated that the myth was to serve a slightly more profound purpose. In a slightly better interpretation, the King was fed up with being surrounded by flatterers and courtiers and people who imagined the throne’s power to be greater than that of God’s. The purpose of hauling the throne to the sea was to demonstrate to the court’s hangers-on that they were wrong. There are certain things government cannot do, among which is command nature’s elements, among which we could include a virus.

...

Thus were the King’s actions extra humble from the beginning. He knew that the sea would rise. He was teaching a lesson to his court which he then hoped to spill out to the kingdom: there are limits to what government can achieve by issuing edicts. A government must bow to nature and nature’s God as the real masters of the universe. Respecting that which you cannot control is the beginning of wisdom, then and now, whether for kings, presidents, prime ministers, or public health officials.

A virus is an individual matter. As the media used to say half a century ago whenever a virus came along, if you get sick, see a doctor. If you are especially vulnerable to being taken down by a virus, isolate yourself. Above all, don’t panic. Let society move forth in calm and normalcy. Let no man imagine himself capable of commanding the tide. This was the way the New York Times reported on 1952, 1957, 1968, 2006, and then things began to change until we got to 2020, when deliberately creating public fear became a tactic for competing in the new age of 24/7 app-based news consumption.

The result: politicians across America and the world, fearing the consequences of telling the truth, dragged their thrones out to the edge of the water and started issuing commands. We couldn’t watch while the briney sea touched their feet but we do have access to astonishing amounts of data and they do look a bit like low and high tide, none of which has anything to do with the mandates, closures, quarantines, travel restrictions, or crowd limits imposed by their powerful hands.

It’s the same in country after country, state after state. No matter when they locked down or opened up, the virus eventually gets there, infects many people, takes down mostly the very elderly and sick, then immune systems incorporate the pathogen, and the virus weakens to the point of being nearly a nonissue. Ebb and flow, like the tides. And the tides care nothing for the power of princes.

I doubt seriously that our arrogant rulers intended to teach the lesson that King Canute taught his subjects. But teach they have, nonetheless. In 2006, the great epidemiologist Donald Henderson warned that if government pursued coercive measures to control a virus, the result would be a “loss of confidence in government to manage the crisis.”

going head to head with bill gates as a  ‘lay epidemiologist’ any day all day ... hopefully without going all Mitsubishi on his ass :)

....

“vaccine-assisted herd immunity is the state’s best and only real defense”

hm  ????

With viruses there is no such thing as herd immunity.  Viruses are an individual issue, NOT a collective issue.  Actually they are an individual cell issue, not even an individual person issue. Period.  ...

 and

A Cover1984 vaccine will have no more effectiveness against the current Cover1984* than flu vaccines have 'preventing' the flu ... which annually by most estimates average about 10% effectiveness.  ( I personally doubt the stats of even 10% effectiveness for flu vaccines .. js)

... Boils down to the same failings of edicts from above as those about masks... a power play instead of concern about the well being of hundreds ... or millions ... because, beyond msm reinforced group think 'religious science' myths,  neither masks nor vaccines  have really been shown to be effective - anywhere!

Medical professionals are held to the “do no harm” standard.  Policy makers are, or at least should be,  held to the  “do no ineffective” standard.  Forcing  policy mandates that have not been shown to be effective is at least ‘unconstitutional’ Courageously resist !!!!  NO ONE will die because you did not wear a mask or take a shot.  NO ONE!

“vaccine-assisted herd immunity is the state’s best and only real defense”  is a lie.      just sayin'

* as it is currently being (almost) replicated / produced by sick cells - which btw makes it now not the same 'c19' that ‘started’ last fall ...

are you ready for "no one could have known" yet ?  i'm just sayin'

As in “no one could have known” that by shutting down life as we know it to focus obsessively on a virus mostly affecting what is still a relatively small number of people at the end of their lives (yes, oh squeamish ones we must summon the courage to talk about Quality Adjusted Life Years when making public policy) we probably would:

1. Cause economic devastation and hence excess deaths, suicides, divorces depressions in much larger numbers than those killed by the virus.

2. Provide an already monopolistic and predatory online retailing establishment with competitive advantages in terms of capital reserves and market share that will make it virtually impossible at any time in the near or medium future for the country’s and the world’s small and even medium-sized businesses to ever catch up to them. And that this will plunge huge sectors of the world-wide economy into serf-like ruin, with all that this portends in terms of additional death and human suffering.

3. Cause greatly increased misery and countless additional deaths in the so-called Global South where many people, rightly or wrongly, depend on the consumption patterns of us relatively fortunate sit-at-homers to make it through the week.

4. Destroy much of what was attractive about urban life as we know it and lead to a real estate collapse of extraordinary proportions, turning even our few remaining showplace cities into crime-ridden reserves of ever more desperate people.

5. Force state and local governments, already struggling before the crisis, and unable to print at money at will like the Feds, to cut their already insufficient budgets at a time when their broke and stressed constituents need those services more than ever.

6. Push “smart” monitoring of our lives, already intolerable for anyone still clinging to memories of freedom in the pre-September 11th world, to the point where most people will no longer understand what people used to know as privacy, intimacy or the simple dignity of being left alone.

7. Train of a generation of children to be fearful and distrustful of others from day one, and to view bending to diktats “to keep them safe”, (no matter how empirically dubious the actual threat to them might be), rather than the courageous pursuit of joy and human fullness, as the key goal in life.

We will also no doubt be told that no one could have imagined or known at the time:

That governments often make policy on the basis of information they know to be largely unsubstantiated or flat-out false. Because they know (Karl Rove spilled the beans in his famous interview with Ron Susskind) that by the time the few conscientious researchers out there get around looking past the hype to debunk their initial storylines, the structures favorable to them put into place on the basis of the false narrative will have been normalized, and thus be in no danger of being dismantled.

That our educational institutions, already failing miserably in the essential democratic task of educating the young to engage in productive conflict with those whose ideas are different than their own, will only further promote dehumanization of “the other” through ever-greater reliance on the disembodied practices of remote learning. And that this, in turn, will only encourage the further growth of the “drive-by shooting” approach to “coping” with new and challenging ideas seen so often in our public “discussions” in recent years.

That further fomenting the alienated and alienating educational practices mentioned above will make than it easier than it already is for our oligarchs to enhance their already obscene levels control over our daily lives and long-term destinies through divide and rule tactics.

That according to the Institute for Democracy and Election Assistance (IDEA) fully twos thirds of elections scheduled to be held since February have been postponed due to COVID. And that this does much to accustom citizens and populations to the idea that one of their few remaining democratic rights can essentially be taken away on the basis of bureaucratic whims, creating a dangerous “new normal” that obviously favors the interests of established centers of power.

That Sweden and other countries developed much more proportionate, culture-saving and dignity-saving ways to live safely and much more fully with the virus.

That Anthony Fauci has a well-documented tendency to see every health problem as being amenable to expensive pharmaceutical solutions (some might even call it corruption), even when other less intrusive, less expensive, and equally effective therapies are available.

That the recent history of using vaccines to fight respiratory infections has been ineffective when not grotesquely counterproductive.

That during the first half of the 20th century the infectious disease of polio was a constant danger, culminating in 1952 with a devastating toll of 3,145 deaths and 21,269 cases of paralysis in a US population of 162,000,000, almost all of the victims being children and young adults. The danger then to the under-24 population (some 34 million) of being infected (.169%) paralyzed (.044%) or killed (.0092%) far outstripped in percentages and, obviously, severity anything COVID is doing to the same age group. And yet there was no talk of blanket school closures, cancelled high school, college and pro sports or, needless to say, lockdowns or masking for the entire society.

That the world lost some 1.1 million people in the 1957-58 Asian flu epidemic (more than the present COVID number of 760,000), with some 116,000 in the US (.064% of the population) and the world similarly did not stop.

That the Hong Kong flu of 1968-69 killed between 1 and 4 million worldwide and some 100,000 in the US (.048% of population killed) and that life similarly was not stopped. Indeed, Woodstock took place in the middle of it.

That the decisions to get on with life in all of these cases were probably not the result, as some today might be tempted suggest, of a lack of scientific knowledge or lesser concern for the value of life, but rather a keener understanding in the more historically-minded heads of that time that risk is always part of life and that aggressive attempts to eliminate this most ubiquitous human reality can often lead to severe unwanted consequences.

That there were many prestigious scientists, including Nobel prize winners, who told us as early as March that this virus, while new, would in greater or lesser measure behave much like all viruses before it and fade away. And, therefore, the best way to deal with it was to let it run its course while protecting the most vulnerable people in society and letting everyone else live their lives.

That significant information platforms banned or sidelined the views of these high-prestige scientists, while aggressively circulating the words of jokers like Neil Ferguson at Imperial College, whose stupid and alarmist predictions of COVID mortality (the latest in a career full of stupid and alarmist, but not coincidentally, pharmaceutical-industry-friendly predictions), gave politicians the pretext for setting in motion perhaps the most aggressive experiment in social engineering in the history of the world.

That just as the levels of mortality from the virus were diminishing rapidly in the late spring and early summer of 2020, thus raising hope for a much-needed return to normality, there was seamless bait and switch in the major media from a discourse centering on the logical and laudable goal of “flattening the curve” to one centered on the absurdly utopian (and not coincidentally vaccine-oriented) goal of eliminating new “cases”.

That having the news media focus narrowly and obsessively on the growth of “cases” when 99%+ of them are completely non-life-threatening was journalistic malpractice of the highest order, comparable to, if not exceeding in its sinister effect that which was generated by the media’s wholly unsubstantiated talk of mushroom clouds and WMD two decades ago, talk that led (so sorry brown people) to the deaths of millions and the destruction of entire civilizations in the Middle East.

That government and corporate power holders, having successfully habituated people to engage in major solidarity-destroying social changes through the repetition of the largely meaningless term “case“, will surely come to rely on it and other breathlessly repeated, albeit largely empty, signifiers to paralyze society at will, especially at those times when the people appear to be waking up and coming together to demand a change In the existing balance of social power.

That as numerous existing and emerging studies seem to demonstrate, hydroxychloroquine is, when combined with other similarly affordable drugs, a safe and rather effective early-stage treatment for COVID 19.

That the negative studies on hydroxychloroquine effectiveness published at two of the most prestigious medical journals in the world The Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine, and which were adduced time and again at a key moment in the early debate of possible COVID treatments to debunk the drug’s effectiveness, were found to be based on forged data sets. (see earlier entry on how power centers play the game of perception lag with false information to achieve long-term structural changes)

That suggesting world-class professional athletes in their 20s and 30s, or even their less talented and less fit high school and college counterparts, were running a risk of mortal consequences in even minimal numbers by playing in the midst of the COVID spread was, in light of known age-related numbers on the disease’s lethality, at best ridiculous and, at worst, a very cynical fear-mongering ploy.

Repeat after me, “no one could have possibly known these things” and then check your screen to see, as citizens of Oceania, whether you are supposed to be worried this week about the threat from Eurasia or Eastasia.

And, of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you to mask up real tight, especially in light of the CDC numbers — you’ll have to forgive here for breaking with the rich tradition of pure panic-driven narrative and moving to the realm of empirical figures — which tell us that up until this point in our “everything must change” crisis:

0.011% of the US population under 65 have died of COVID

0.005% of the US population under 55 have died of COVID

0.0009% of the US population under 35 have died of COVID

0.0002% of the US population under 25 have died of COVID

0.00008% of the US population under 15 have died of COVID

And as for the most “high risk” people?

0.23% of the US population over 65 have died of COVID

Though they’ve tried to sell it otherwise, this thing has very little, if anything, to do with great-grandma’s Spanish flu of 1918.

Indeed, it not even completely clear if it is cumulatively worse in terms of loss of life than the influenzas outbreaks of 1957-58 or 1968-69 that most everyone slept through. But, I guess that doesn’t matter when there’s a narrative to keep.

Might it be time to ask if there might be something else afoot with all this?
