[inverted hammer] Same As Shooting Star but Different Signal?

I guess trend reversal will depend on the confirmation candle...same thing with a hammer or a hanging man. -
How can an inverted hammer in a downtrend be considered a bullish reversal signal...and a shooting star in an uptrend be considered bearish reversal signal?
