I learned that you dont use MAs alone as indicator. And i found some backtests about moving average crossover where they used not standard 200 or 50 day, but about everything in between and this seems to work out better.

Can you not use a free online chart software with technical analysis functions? I have been using Openoffice Calc, and 1. it is a pain to get formulas for indicators and code them 2. It gets very very slow with much data

I would recommend "the intelligent investor" from benjamin graham, it is old but parts of it are timeless i think.
