  1. So BF are you still working from a capital base of 10k? I thought you would size up about by 5 times since you returned about 500% last year :P
  2. Last trade of the year for me was an overnight short in the DAX. Market was heading higher but encountered resistance so I thought it would retrace to about 5990 and it turned out it went further than that, to around 5950. Just need to work on my exits. Happy and prosperous new year to all
  3. I'm surprised by the liquidity. Is the market as wild as say, the DAX? Would it be stretching it to trade one contract with a US$10k account? Really interested in this market as it fits my timezone well and it's quite liquid. Looks like it actually moves too. Not to mention that I'm a korean national living abroad (can't speak korean very well though).
  4. Got back into trading today after being consumed with poker the last few weeks. Looked for a short today. Found an opportunity about 1 hr into the market (DAX) and took it. Really happy with how I traded today, because I shorted near the top and exited near the bottom, before it bounced back. Ignore the FESX trade, that was due to me pressing the wrong buttons!
  5. BF you did that with a $10,00 account? Bravo!
  6. I blew up my CFD account last October, when the markets were going crazy. I remember it vividly- it was October 17-18 and the markets were tanking. I loaded up on DAX contracts, shorting it. I was overleveraged and the next morning I woke up to see that I got a margin call due to a huge rally. There were two key lessons I learned from this: 1. Use a stop loss 2. Don't overeleverage Looking back at it, it doesn't cease to amaze me how naive I was in thinking I could get away with breaking the two rules above, especially in a volatile market like that. Luckily for me the account wasn't too big. I'm still trading and not profitable yet. I'm sure I will be soon though
  7. -NZ$39.92 Put on a short position on the DAX before the US market open and went to sleep. The market didn't decline much then rose, hitting my stop loss. I wonder if there is a function that allows you to move your stops automatically so that it becomes a trailing stop. Will need to find out on my platform. Anyway, the market was rather choppy and non trending today. I'll look for a short opportunity tomorrow. I think the mistake I made today was not waiting for a high probability setup. I knew my stop was likely to get hit but just went for the trade anyway. I think I was just afraid of missing out on a huge move. DAX 30 min: happy trading
  8. Not happy with last night's trade. I was too quick on the trigger imo. Should have waited a bit to see how the market was going to move before putting on a trade. What actually happened was my position got steamrolled as I was on the other side of a moving market. I'm happy with how I limited my losses by using a stop loss and actually sticking to it, however. happy trading
  9. Just started trading the DAX with CFDs (like futures but much less leveraged- 1 point in the DAX is worth 1 euro). Bought near the low of the day and got out after about 40 points. Sold a bit too early, as you can see on this chart here: happy trading
  10. Bathrobe do you mind telling us your percentage return for the year so far? I am very curious, as you seem to make a profit the vast majority of the time. I wish I was that consistent!
  11. Exactly. I'm going to go with either AMP or Infinity. AMP has slightly cheaper commissions but Infinity appears to have stronger support/service. Decisions decisions. I have heard some bad things about Infinity over at ET, whilst amp has been getting better reviews there.
  12. Exactly, that's why I still haven't pulled the trigger. I've been suffering chronic DCs in the fast few days using their demo account. It's been fine for the past several months at my apartment though. Maybe it's my home connection? I don't know. I remember it used to be like this (but not as bad) a year ago at my home connection as well. However I have noticed that Infinity's datafeed has never frozen for me, so I might go with them instead. BUT their commissions are about 3 times as expensive I'm also looking at AMP and Mirus but I don't really like NT for some reason. Maybe because I've had so much trouble trying to get demo accounts running on it.
  13. The rep said $0.72 R/T, but I will ask again to make sure.
  14. I just emailed them and it looks like the exchange fees for the FESX are $0.72 R/T, so it's not as bad I (or diablo) thought it was. I also asked them about fees per trade for international customers and it seems they don't charge those either, which is great for me ! I will most likely take the plunge, will keep you guys informed how it goes. Happy trading
  15. Hi, I'm thinking about opening an account with OEC. I'll be mainly trading FESX. What enticed me was their $0.50 per side commission for the lifetime of the account (special email offer). Is this too good to be true? Infinity charges about 5-6 euros roundturn for the FESX (I think), and there has to be some catch to this! 0.50 just seems ridiculous for commission. That aside, has anyone experienced any problems with OEC? Particularly issues related to execution and data feed reliability. Happy trading
