Futures or Cash Session?

When charting the profile for the ES, should I include the final 15 minutes of the futures session, or should I just use 8:30-3:00 cash session time? Also, when filling an opening gap, should I look for it to fill the futures or cash session?

Thanks

Re: Futures or Cash Session?

Yes, absolutely. The settlement bar is important and look for the early trading to test this area the following AM.

Re: Futures or Cash Session?

Hi, thanks for the reply. So how about when filling a gap? Would I look for it to fill the futures or cash session close?

Re: Futures or Cash Session?

I use 8:30am to 3:15pm Chicago time for ES. For gaps, I still use the same timeframe for futures.

Re: Futures or Cash Session?

If you asked this question a couple years ago, I would agree with what has been said here. However, I think it is important for us to realize and accept that today the markets are very different and ever evolving. Although an analysis of volume by session may not support paying more attention to the Asia/Europe sessions, I personally think the price points traded are very important in today's market. Just take a look at how often the European ranges support the North American session.

Personally, I would not chart the ES.D anymore, especially for price distribution. We live in a 24hour world now. We may not like it, but it is a fact and markets, all markets, are different now. This is one reason I believe the markets have a difficult time sustaining direction.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
