Trading the Currencies

Are there people trading the CME currencies (Euro or Yen) using Market Profile? If so, what time period do you use to generate the Market Profile using TPOs? I use 7:20am to 3:30pm EST because of the light trading during the overnight sessions. I'll use 24 hours to generate a volume profile though. Also, I would be interested to hear about people's success trading the currencies using Market Profile. Thanks.

I would be very interested in knowing about this as well. I do not trade currencies but since I am a part market profile trader this will be something I would like to learn.

I am not too sure about Forex but I know a few traders who use Market Profile in trading currency futures. Perhaps you can look into currency futures instead?

Do you think market profile works better for commodities?

Re: Trading the Currencies

I'd try 3:00AM EST to 11:30 EST for the EUro 6E because that would coincide with the European cash session.

Re: Trading the Currencies

For short term ( 0 < day < 10days). I use globex (24Hr) 10 min bars and plot volume profile.
For longer term I use 240min bars, also volume profile.

I have not experimented with "day session" in currencies, but if I were to do so, I would segment the 24Hr session into high volume ( day) and low volume. In general. high volume starts sometimes in Euro session and completes during US day session.

Re: Trading the Currencies

I break the 24 hour day into 480 minute Profiles roughly aligning with the 3 time zones of Europe, Asia and U.S. I then do splits and merges between them as appropriate.
