What scenarios would result in USD losing its reserve status?

When enough people don't believe that the US will pay them back and start demanding payment in other forms, eg. gold silver, yuan, etc. This is already happening in a small scale as the last time I was in mexico, no one took US dollars. But there has to be an alternative and the issues with the euro is the best thing that could happen to the dollar.

Another way is if the US continues to debase the dollar and inflate away its value. Couple that with a weakening economy and it is a possibility it may lose its reserve status in our lifetime.
