Internet Connection Speed and Invesor/RT

Is your Internet connection fast enough for Investor/RT? Is something faster available? Is it worth upgrading if so?

Re: Internet Connection Speed and Invesor/RT

Can I design and implement strategies to autotrade with Investor/RT using Infinity/Transact?

If so, how - and what is the cost to do so?

Re: Internet Connection Speed and Invesor/RT

It is interesting to see that irt are software people not comms people.

For most broadband connections the correct question is not: is your internet connection fast enough?

Unless downloading (movies, porn, backfills (2 of these are probably illegal)) is how you judge your connection then absolute speed is not the issue.

They will be fast enough (256k/1.5M and above) for operation and trading. The real issue is "what is the latency of the connection and what is the quality / reliability?" There are lots of fast internet connections out there that are not suitable for trading - because they give you a high speed but with poor or variable latency (read, ping time) because they overload the links, routers, etc.

When downloading 20 days of historical tick data on the ES, which generally equates to about 250mb of data, speed is absolutely an issue. When you're tracking 20 symbols that are delivering several hundred trades/packets per second during an active market, speed again is an issue. And of course, if you're doing both at the same time...you get the point. However, I do appreciate your added insight. The latency and reliability are absolutely important. Feel free to post how a user would measure these qualities of their connection and find issues if they exist. It would certainly add value to this thread.

We have implemented trading directly from Investor/RT to Zen-Fire and interactive brokers at this point (which in turn opens the door to autotrading). Our next target is Infinity/TransAct and we hope to get start on that very soon.
