Thumbs down My computer is down hard

My dell inspiron 600m just crapped the bed on me..the charger apparently broke from the motherboard....

Does anyone know what my options are? lol this sucks! I'd really rather not have to buy a new computer right now, but at the same time I don't want to have to pay out the nose for a motherboard on a 2 yr old computer either just to be able to have it charge right....any ideas or suggestions?

Tin, I think this is where you chime in and tell me to get a mac. lol

Re: My computer is down hard

I custom made mine from scratch for under $900. I bought this a little over 2 years ago.. running Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHz, 1gb RAM. Running two additional video cards with 4 monitors. Not sure how much they cost in the US... but customizing is the way to go in Japan.

Buy the cheapest computer you can ($300?) and get your software moved onto it. Or spend a couple of hundred more and buy something much more powerful than your old machine.

Re: My computer is down hard

I think you are talking about a laptop because you mentioned a charger. If that is the case, you should take it down to your local computer shop. If they are like most local shops, they have a "laptop specialist" that comes around every few days. That guy may be able to solder the charger back onto the motherboard. That is what I would do.

Dude....get a mac. First off, if you want a laptop, the charger is held on the computer by a magnet!!! No worries about tripping over the cord and having this sort of catastrophe on hand. PLUS, you get like 3-4 years out of a Mac instead of 2 from a PC. Makes economic sense in the long run. Plus...they look so much cooler

HAHA!!! There's my 2 cents

ha ha I knew that was coming Tin!

Thanks for the answers yall. I am gonna swing by one of the computer shops...I went to one yesterday but the guy was like "uuuhhh yeah you probably need a new motherboard"...but I wanted a second opinion because soldering seems logical, or of course getting a MAC. HA HA
