Anyone else get stuck in a trade today?

As of now I am stuck a quarter position in the YM due to trading halted on the CBOT.

Entry at 11731 and trading halted at 11748.

Anyone run into this problem today? Unbelievably this has never happened for me. Do markets gap when trading halts?

Update:

I asked around concerning this halt. A buddy notified me that futs will usually start at cash + premium.

I couldn't find the dow premium on TS but did find it at Program Trading, Fair Value, Index Arbitrage Values - indexArb.com. You can find the fair value and the range there.

Re: Anyone else get stuck in a trade today?

Trading halted at 11748 today. When the markets resumed, prices opened at around 11775 and lifted rapidly to 11790 without pausing.

I exited at 11788 due to uncertainty. Always good to be flat when you don't quite know what will happen.

So anytime trading halts due to technical issues, look for futs to start at cash + premium.

James,
How exactly did you hedge your YM position during exchange down?
Hedging using ES is another way. I am not familiar with options trading, but I am thinking if it is possible to use options to hedge YM during exchange down..

Re: Anyone else get stuck in a trade today?

The ES is one way to hedge it. If you're short the YM and the exchange goes down, just go long the ES. They move identical to each other so by the time the exchange goes back up, you'll most likely be break even. You can avoid a large loss this way. Perhaps you can hedge by taking some positions in some ETF's as well. The QQQQ's or the SMH might be good for a hedge.

I've never traded options so I would not know.

Man, that CBOT, they seem to halt every 4 months. I witnessed 2 already in last 6 months and one spike about 6 months ago that no one seemed to explain. Seems more unreliable than CME, IMO. Another reason not to trade YM.

guys,
Anyone having problem with tradestation today? Charts of NQZ06.D, ER2Z06.D, ESZ06.D and YMZ06.D are frozen. Am I looking at wrong contracts?
