Anyone Interested in The Securities Business?

Hello traders,

I have a contact from Hays (formerly James Harvard) who is interested in recruiting those who speak english and have a equity/future trading experience for positions in the securities industry in Tokyo, Japan. This division of Hays specializes in recruiting people into the financial industry here in Tokyo. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I will connect you two personally. Im assuming it does not matter what nationality you are but will find out more details shortly including base salary, etc...

The sweet thing about non-Japanese citizens is that the securities firm will pay your rent for going abroad.

Presumably they're looking for people who have held related positions rather than retail traders from a completely different background (which I guess is most of us).

Oh thats so cool. Actually anyone with a trading background is eligible whether you have previous experience in a institution or a private trader.

I take it that this position is located in Tokyo only?

There are a lot of trading positions advertised in London. The salary isn't great compared to what you can earn trading from home. I guarantee that positions that Hays are looking to fill won't be particularly attractive in terms of pay and conditions. They're the McDonalds/Walmart of the recruitment industry. Relocating to Tokyo is tempting though as I used to live in Osaka and I've been planning on relocating to Asia for a while.

I hope someday these firms will let traders work from their own locations, telecommute or something. After all it's electronic trading, not floor trading at exchanges. I would be interested just to see what the other side is like but unfortunately, relocation is out of the question.

Actually, this is a great topic for the interest of others. James, you should add a section for recruiting or employment of this kind. I'm not saying anyone can post soliciting employment, but something like you just mentioned, a contact or a referral, etc.

I doubt they're looking to fill trading positions. Trading positions are very well paid and competitive to get into and firms wouldn't use recruitment agencies and internet forums to recruit new people. They generally recruit computer science or maths graduates and train them themselves or they recruit people who have a proven trading record with another firm. My guess is Hays are looking for back office staff or something.

Can you give any hints about what sort of positions they're looking to fill Soultrader?

Ill find out more details regarding the position but you will be surprised at the amount of trading jobs available through recruiting firms here in Tokyo. As a matter of fact it is pretty much the standard way of applying for most financial positions in Tokyo. Will keep you posted.
