Learning Price Movement

When studying price movements, can the same strategies be applied to both an uptrending market and a downtrending market?

Does anyone use different strategies when going long or short?

I use different strategies for long and short setups. The markets tend to move slower when price is advancing and faster on a decline.

I find pullbacks in a uptrending market to be deeper than retracements in a downtrending market.

One example is: in an uptrending market I use a 61.8% fib setup. While in a downtrending market I use a 50% fib setup.

From my observation different markets move differently. Some markets may require a different strategy for longs and shorts. Markets have personalities that reflect the personality of the traders behind it.

You might find this thread relevant if you are learning to trade price action only.

I find this true for stocks and index futures but not for real goods (commodities).
