Welcome to The Lab Mcdee What time frame are you trading with? In my case, I day trade strictly so I would use tighter stops compared to swing traders. One good way to determine your stop is by using ATR or average true range of the contract. The more volatile the contract, the more likely you will get stopped out using a tight stop. On the ES, I usually use a 1.5 - 2 point stop. This is because I play mainly pivot points on the ES. Hope this helps.
