Are the markets random or predictable?
Being engaged in the stock market for a few months now, I find it very hard to look for any predictable patterns. Do the markets move completely randomly?

Re: Are the markets random or predictable?
In my case, I find it easier to understand the day by day movements in the markets. The longer the timeframe I find it harder to predict.
The untrained eye sees price mveoments as chaos. But with the proper training and hours of practice, I think one can start to understand the language of the markets.

Re: Are the markets random or predictable?
If the markets were completely random, there is no way a day or swing trader can be profitable. The fact that traders are able to extract money from the markets daily proves the markets are not random.

Re: Are the markets random or predictable?
There are a number of factors within the market which seem to stay constant, e.g. people over buying on good news and people over selling on bad news.
The trick to reading the markets is to learn the language of the market. If you know what to listen for, markets can tell you a lot about the future movement of stocks. Like Soultrader said, after a while studying the markets, you will begin to pick up some of the signals. |

Re: Are the markets random or predictable?
I think markets can be predicted based on many factors. But then, people with heavy capital back up, smartly, manipulate market in their favour. So, one can definately not be sure about his prediction. I myself have suffered with some sudden weird changes in market trends.
