Has anyone worked with a MKV file before?

I found a tv show I was looking for with the help of some on the forum. I now have a follow up question - the format of the file is MKV. I've been all over google the last couple days trying to figure out how to turn this file into something that can be burnt to a DVD.

I was hoping with the computer folks we have here that someone could help out.

Here's what I found so far...
Main MKV site - http://www.matroska.org/index.html

The problem is there doesn't appear to be one easy-to-use program that I can plug these MKV files into and be done. You would think so, but nothing that I have found. It doesn't help that there's dead links on their website.

Thanks!!!!!

Maybe-

Google for the latest ffdshow Decoder filter and install it, and your problems should be gone. Your anime likely is containing some AAC audio, and we are aware that there is a bug in CoreAAC right now, the AAC audio decoder we normally provide with our pack.

Installing the latest ffdshow will fix this problem, alternatively there is an updated CoreAAC here : http://coreaac.corecodec.org .

Soon we plan to launch the 1.2.0 version of our packs, fixing this also.

I guess mplayer can decode them.
Converting the file takes a bit more than a couple of clicks, but it's certainly not rocket science. Just a few console parameters and done. I could make some sceenshots to guide you through the process.

I hope PYenner's approach will solve your problems.

I am reliably informed by my daughter that VLCplayer can be downloaded for free and will play it Brown, so if what you are trying is not suitable, just google it or

Re: Has anyone worked with a MKV file before?

momentom - thanks for that but what I need is to take that MKV file and turn it into a format that can be burnt to a DVD. The file as an MKV will not play in a normal DVD player so there has to be some sort of conversion. I didn't get around to it today, so later this week I'll have to dive into it.

Re: Has anyone worked with a MKV file before?

Update - this software - http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ - is incredible for what I needed. I just put the file in make some text changes if I want and off it goes. No need for extra codecs and stuff like that, it's one simple and easy solution.

Highly recommend (so far).
