Trading Over Xmas

Do the eMini Futures Markets close over Xmas/New Year and should one trade over the xmas period. New to these markets so just wondering what happens and whether one should continue to trade or step aside. For example, how long before volume returns to normal.

Trade when the markets move the fastest and the farthest... go enjoy yourself until January 4th 2010.

Re: Trading Over Xmas

NYSE: early close 12/24, closed 12/25, closed 1/1/2010.

And on any day when NYSE is closed, Globex volume is likely to be very low, at least for the index minis.

Re: Trading Over Xmas

I'll chime in with the other side of the coin - if there's volume there, it could be traded. That doesn't mean it will work for all types of traders, but you can trade it if there's volume there.

I mention that b/c in a p/l post I had mentioned that taking a few holidays off here recently was costly to me.

Re: Trading Over Xmas

Take December off and enjoy your self. If you havent made your yearly goal by the end of NOV, you should stop trading and come back in JAN.

What's the point then of having a yearly goal if you stop early without reaching it? If you want to take December off, your trading plan and goal should take that into account.

Re: Trading Over Xmas

Thats the point, if you havent reached your goal that late in the year. Why would you risk capital and potentially dig a hole that you dont have time to dig out from. Trading is about Planning, executing the plan, and being able to make it to the next day of trading.

But this is a very complex profession as traders see things very differently thru ea set of eyes.

Good Luck.
