Uptick Rule Introduced

Did I mistake myself or did I read somewhere in a previous post that the NO UPTICK RULE (currently) in index futures is comming to an end...and they will be introducing this uptick rule?

Where can I read about this.

Re: Uptick Rule Introduced

I have heard nothing like this recently. But would like to confirm this 100% if this is true or not. If this is really the case.. this is seriously going to be a problem.

Don't worry about it James.

If some fool introduces it in the US market you'll still have bund, estx50, dax, the hsi and the nikkei for some great trading.

No, there is no uptick rule being introduced to futures of any type, SSF's or ETF's

Re: Uptick Rule Introduced

Just think guys, uptick rule in futures will never ever happen:

1. the futures prices are bound to the cash market, they cannot drop like a stone due to arbitrage
2. futures market orders are completely symetric and selling short is a fundamental element of these markets, not like companies stocks. In futures markets there are ALWAYS 50% longs and 50% shorts - does any uptick rule make any sense here?
3. many futures markets (futures on commodities) like corn, oil etc. simply cannot drop like stocks because there is real value underneath and not something virtual possible to cheat (corn do not care of Arthur Andersens fake audit reports or shareholders interests)

You may have read it elsewhere, like another forum, perhaps? Otherwise, yep, you are mistaken.

Anyway, for futures it isn't happening anytime soon - so don't believe everything you read, unless you confirm it from the true source.

You'll always read silly rumours and the like on these boards, so take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Uptick Rule Introduced

it isn't happening ANYTIME ever. like the other said, futures markets (unlike stocks) are both zero sum and symmetric. if they do not have equal access for shorts and longs, they cannot work. also, futures are important for commercials and they need equal access to shorts and longs. it will never happen
