Backtesting software

I have an IB account, invest in stocks and options and am looking for software that allows me to perform backtesting of strategies.

Ideally, it would also be software that automates the trades.

I have a programming background.

I'm picking up mixed signals about tradestation, especially since they went to being a brokerage. What's the current thinking?

BTW I'm in the USA.

Re: Backtesting software

I'm currently using tradestation and for writing and backtesting strategies, it's a very good platform to do it in. Been with them almost 2 years and still test my ideas whenever I can. Yes, there is a brokerage side, but if you trade with them 10 round trips for more, the platform fee ($99) is waived. If you're already trading, might as well as get it free and test your ideas with them. Good luck.

Re: Backtesting software

Looking at what TS uses versus what I use (InvestorR/T) the language in TS is much easier to code with.

I'm using various different strategies. But for backtesting right now I'm wanting to test a strategy of stock trending using a combination of trend-following, oscillator and price.

I'm really looking at swing trading, perhaps evolving to day-trading later.
