Site Updates and Redesign

Posted 06-24-2009 at 11:16 PM by Soultrader

I figured its time for some upgrading on TL. The site design has always been catered to a professional and mature crowd. I prefer to stick to this instead of making it a catchy poppy website.

I am currently working on a new site redesign with a new designer. It will be the first time working with him but pretty confidence we will have something solid over the next 4-6 weeks.

Attached are some drafts sent recently. Obviously its just a sample draft so the end result will look much different. Thoughts? Feedbacks?

    Soultrader,
Took a look at the drafts, the second one is more appealing.
Would like to make a healthy suggestion:

It would be useful for the Forums to have threads that are only for experienced traders. I know a lot of them that don't participate because they find too many novices and beginners in your forums. So the idea is to have different levels of traders in a separate section to maintain the cohesiveness and if a new inexperienced trader wants to participate, he would have to answer a short quiz for screening purposes.

The other idea is to encourage more posting of charts when a post is made to better illustrate their opinion. Many of the postings do not have charts to support the topics.

The final idea would be to have a thread for the evaluation of Live Trading Rooms from many different Tranning Online Companies and encourage traders to discuss their experiences and opinions of all these Trading Rooms.

    Best Regards,

Hi Ronin, thanks for the comments. The premium forum was meant for a private discussion. It seems it has not taken off like I wanted to.... Ill see what I can do to implement private threads.

Encouraging charts is another thing.... it would be hard to force a post to have a chart. Probably the best would be to create an atmosphere where chart posting is required or leave messages notifying members to attach charts.

The last request regarding trading room reviews is something I have been refraining from. This is because of the number of legal threats I have received from various websites and the headache is simply not worth it at the moment. Thanks.

A trading forum's purpose is discussion and education. If you deny access to the novices, then there is no point of having a trading forum. These novices represent a good portion of the population of Traders Laboratory. If Ronin does not like reality, he can crawl back into the hole from which he came out of. Arrogant fools of Ronin's calibre insult the trading profession and the pursuit of knowledge. If you decide to limit the novices' accessibility on this site, then you will have a drastic reduction in site traffic, which pays the bills in one way or another.
