A quick look at the CBOT official site shows CBOT mini-sized gold contracts trade from "6:16PM-4:00PM" (http://www.cbot.com/cbot/pub/page/0,...00.html#metals)

However, mb trading (my broker) shows metals as trading "12:30AM-5:00PM", and "6PM-11:55PM". (http://www.mbtrading.com/f/futuretradinghours.pdf).


Which one is it?

Go with the exchange first.

Brokers are notorious for misrepresenting the open/close times of contracts on their platform or documentation.

For example, Open E Cry still has the CBOT treasury complex (ZB, ZN, ZF, ZT, ZQ) showing an open time of 7:00 pm ET on their live OEC platform for months now, when in fact it's been starting at 6:30 pm ET since Jan 28th, 2008.

In your case, looking at the link you provided, mb trading has the correct start time listed for the CBOT metals (7:16 pm ET). The 11:55pm ET stop time is when mb trading has elected to restart their own servers for nightly maintenance, restarting it at 12:30am ET, with the correct close time of 5:00 pm ET shown.
