Trading software and EOD data

Hi All,

Just a brief background so that you know where I stand. I have been trading for about 4 months and would like to get a charting software package (do not have one presently) as my boker (Interactivebrokers) does not have much.

This is what I am looking for

1. Must have historical back data for about 20 -25 years.
2. Just need end of day data for US and German and UK market.
3. Need to be able to draw in vertical lines for DELTA i.e I need to be able to draw in 4 different colored vertical lines at specific dates going back many years.
4. Simple charts only OHLC price needed.
5. Need to be able to draw in numbers above the chart on daily, weekly charts.

I want to trade using the tool DELTA that is why I need the vertical lines.
I have looked at technical trader which has all the bells and whistles and comes with a price tag of 1600 USD and a yearly fee of 400 USD.

I have found some EOD data providers that provide data for a one time yeraly fee of about 80 USD. I just need to link that up with a software package and that is all I need.
I only trade in between working , I am not a full time trader that needs all the extras.

Who can recommend a simple, charting software at a reasonable price.

I already pay for streaming market data with interactive so I could also link up charting package to use their data. Which software works with this ?

Any hints to a simple approach would be much appreciated.
DELTA society offers their own package but they only cover one market unless you take the whole package.

Cheers
Ian

InvestorRT from linnsoft.com will allow you to use the IB feed. If you are on a PC, I've heard that IRT is sometimes buggy. I'm on a Mac and its worked great for me.

The most cost effective packages that will do the things you need are probably the old version of tradestation (TS2000i), SierraChart, and Amibroker.

I have used the first and still use the second. I don't know the third.

I now use SierraChart via TransAct. It works fine & is not buggy, PC or Mac. I use both my laptops, just in case...Good value, easy to upload & use ,cost effective.

I've had a good experience so far with MultiCharts. No idea if it can do what you need, but take a look. http://www.tssupport.com/products/multicharts/

Thanks for your replies. I will go and check them out.
Why are the data providers and the charting pacakes sold together and why if you already have the data from your broker do I need to sign up with a independent supplier of data, seems like one is paying for the same service twice, or have I misunderstood something.

Mac - I guess it depends on the charting, but MC supports broker data plugins. Just depends who you are using - http://www.tssupport.com/products/mu...atamanagement/

And they announced yesterday that they are supporting Open ECry as well now.
