This member is the original thread starter. Automated Trading with Investor/RT?

Hi there,

If anyone tested automated trading with Investor/RT... I do would have some questions, here is the first:
- Is Pro Backtester also good for automated trading on Interactive Brokers for instance (with or without Automated 8$/mo option) or I need Pro Complete?

Thanks.

Joseph

Re: Automated Trading with Investor/RT?

Autotrader is a 3rd party program available directly from autotradersoftware.com for $60/year. It can serve as a conduit for Investor/RT to send trading orders to Interactive Brokers. We offer the product monthly for $8 so you can test it out for awhile, but we recommend that if you want to automate or semi-automate trading with IB from Investor/RT charts that you license Autotrader for a year at a time.

With Autotrader in the picture you can setup buttons in your charts that send pre-established trading orders to IB. You can setup trading signals in your charts and associate a signal action with the signal. A signal action fires when the associated signal fires true in real-time. Signal actions can send trading order to IB (via Autotrader). Signal actions can also be setup to fire whenever price penetrates a reference line or a sloping trendline that you have established. All of these things can be done with the Investor/RT Professional product. (Pro Backtester or Pro Complete are optional).

If you want to venture into the fully or semi-automated realm, then you will need to create and backtest (and optimize) your automated trading system. This will require the Pro Complete package. Once your trading system is ready to deploy in real-time you use the TSYSI (Trading System Indicator) in your chart(s). The TSYSI encapsulates all of your trading rules into your chart where those rules act as a whole on real-time streaming data. Each rule in your automated trading system can have an associated signal action. These can be simple messages that tell you what signal has fired via a message or a sound, or a signal action can fire a trading order that opens or closes a position in your IB trading account (real or simulated) by using Autotrader as the conduit for the trading orders.

There are endless possibilities here. To learn more visit the Linn Software web site search page http://www.linnsoft.com/search/ and use Autotrader or Automatic Trading or Trading Orders or Signal Actions to find resource material on each of these related subjects.

Regards,

Bill
